Année du dragon à Taïwan

Year of the Dragon in Taiwan

As every year in December, the Chunghwa Post has issued on December 1, 2011 its new series (2 single stamps + 1 souvenir sheet) dedicated to the Chinese New Year of the water dragon.
This set, with a pop modern art style, is the second one of a new 12-year cycle started last year with the Year of the Rabbit.
The two single stamps of this new series appear on the nice illustrated cover below, mailed on December 7, 2011 from the city of Kaohsiung.
Thank you very much Wei Yi :-)

The two stamps being part of the previous cycles issued to celebrate the Year of the Dragon, in 1987 and 1999, also appear on this envelope, respectively in the form of a stamp (NT$ 1.50) and a reproduction to the left.

The other two stamps above to the left (NT$ 5.00 and NT$ 17.00), issued on September 20, 2002, are much more interesting because they evoke the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Taiwan (Republic of China) and the Holy See (Vatican) as well as the 80th anniversary of the arrival of the first apostolic delegate, Archbishop Celso Costantini, in the Republic of China.
The flags of the two countries are featured on these two stamps as well as St. Peter's Basilica in the Vatican and the office of the president in Taipei (stamp to the left) and the portrait of Celso Costantini with doves (stamp to the right).
To note that Taiwan has today diplomatic relations with only 23 countries around the world, Vatican being the only one in Europe...
