Hommage à Maurice Béjart en Belgique

A tribute to Maurice Béjart in Belgium

La poste Belge a dégainé la 1ère pour rendre hommage au célèbre chorégraphe franco-suisse Maurice Béjart (1927-2007) !
Béjart créera sa 1ère compagnie de danse à Paris en 1953 puis sera invité à diriger la compagnie de ballet du Théâtre Royal de la Monnaie à Bruxelles à partir de 1959. Le "Ballet du XXème siècle" est né !
Il y mettra en scène ses premières grandes chorégraphies : "Le Sacre du Printemps" en 1959 ou "Le Boléro" en 1960.
Béjart rompt alors avec la danse classique en faisant appel à la musique moderne et à des danses du monde entier...
The Belgian Post was the first to unsheathe to pay tribute to the famous Swiss-French choreographer Maurice Béjart (1927-2007) !
Béjart created his first dance company in Paris in 1953 and then was invited to lead the Ballet company of the Théâtre Royal de la Monnaie in Brussels from 1959. The "Ballet of the XXth century" was born !
He will there stage his first major choreography : "The Rite of Spring" in 1959 or "The Bolero" in 1960.
Béjart then broke with the classical dance by using modern music and dances from around the world...

Voici ci-dessus le joli timbre émis le 31 août 2009 par la poste belge. La prévente de ce timbre avait lieu à Gand (Gent en flamand) le 29 août 2009 où le cachet spécial ci-dessus a été émis.

A noter la mention "Leven is Dansen !" ("Danser sa vie !") dans la partie supérieure de l'oblitération.
Ce timbre permanent a été émis avec le tarif "1 Europe", soit 0,90€ actuellement. Il reproduit une photographie de Robert Kayaert montrant le danseur argentin Jorge Donn dans "Messe pour le temps présent" en 1967.
Jorge Donn (1947-1992) avait rejoint le Ballet du XXème siècle à Bruxelles en 1963.
Here is above the beautiful stamp issued on August 31, 2009 by the Belgian Post. The preview sale of this stamp took place in Ghent (Gent in Flemish) on August 29, 2009 where the special postmark above was issued.

This Permanent stamp was issued with the " 1 Europe" postal rate, currently € 0.90. It reproduces a photograph of Robert Kayaert showing the Argentine dancer Jorge Donn in "Mass for the present time" in 1967.
Jorge Donn (1947-1992) had joined the Ballet of the XXth century in Brussels in 1963.

Ce timbre a été émis dans le très intéressant bloc-feuillet ci-dessus composé de 5 timbres. Un célèbre portrait de Maurice Béjart, datant de 1984, y figure à gauche. Le fond du bloc montre une vue de l'école-atelier de danse Mudra que Béjart fonda à Bruxelles en 1970 (fermée en 1988).
Béjart quittera la Belgique pour la Suisse en 1987 pour créer le Béjart Ballet Lausanne (BBL) et une nouvelle école-atelier Rudra.
A noter que le jour d'émission de ce timbre, une "Maison Maurice Béjart" a été inaugurée à Bruxelles pour perpétuer la mémoire du chorégraphe, mort à Lausanne en 2007. Elle abrite un centre d'archives, un espace d'exposition et une résidence temporaire pour les artistes et chorégraphes.
On attend maintenant les timbres en hommage à Béjart émis par la Suisse et la France !
This stamp was issued in the very interesting souvenir sheet above consisting of five stamps. A famous portrait of Maurice Béjart, dating from 1984, appears on the left. The sheet's background is depicting a view of the Mudra dance school-workshop that Béjart founded in Brussels in 1970 (closed in 1988).
Béjart leaves Belgium to Switzerland in 1987 to create the Béjart Ballet Lausanne (BBL) and a new Rudra dance school.
It's worth noting that on the date of issue of this stamp, a "Maurice Béjart House" was opened in Brussels to commemorate the choreographer, who died in Lausanne in 2007. It houses an archive center, an exhibition space and a temporary residence for artists and choreographers.
We're now waiting for the next stamps honoring Béjart issued by Switzerland and France !
