100 years of the first Grand Prix celebrated in Macedonia

100 ans du premier Grand Prix automobile célébré en Macédoine

Le 14 juin 2006, l'administration postale de l'Ex-République yougoslave de Macédoine a mis en circulation un timbre spécial (36 denars) consacré au 100ème anniversaire du premier Grand Prix automobile de l'histoire.
Un grand merci Ana pour cette lettre ci-dessous, envoyée le 24 février 2016 de Skopje, la capitale du pays, affranchie avec ce timbre !
Ce premier Grand Prix automobile a en effet été organisé en France en 1906, créé à l'initiative de l'industrie automobile française afin de disposer d'une alternative aux coupes Gordon Bennett (organisées à partir de 1900).
On June 14, 2006, the postal administration of the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia released a special stamp (36 denars) dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the first Grand Prix motor race of history.

This first Grand Prix was indeed organized in France in 1906, created at the initiative of the French automotive industry in order to be an alternative to the Gordon Bennett Cups (organized from 1900).

Cette compétition était organisée sur 2 jours (26 et 27 juin) sur un circuit de forme triangulaire de plus de 100 km de long dans la région du Mans.
32 pilotes ont pris le départ, représentant 12 constructeurs automobiles différents.
La France a sans doute été choisie pour ce premier Grand Prix car elle représentait à cette époque la plus importante industrie automobile en Europe.
Ce timbre représente un drapeau à damier ainsi qu'un véhicule Renault AK, piloté par le vainqueur de ce Grand Prix de France, le hongrois Ferenc Szisz (1873-1944).
This competition was organized on 2 days (June 26 and 27) on a triangular circuit of over 100 km long in the Le Mans region.
32 drivers took the start, representing 12 different automotive manufacturers.
France has probably been chosen for this first Grand Prix because it represented at that time the largest car industry in Europe.
That stamp features a checkered flag as well as a Renault AK car, piloted by the winner of this Grand Prix of France, Hungarian Ferenc Szisz (1873-1944).

A noter que cette même année 2006, la poste hongroise avait émis un timbre en l'honneur du pilote Ferenc Szisz pour cette victoire lors de ce 1er Grand Prix de l'histoire, un anniversaire curieusement oublié par la poste française...
