TAD "Sir Ernest Shackleton (1874-1922)" sur lettre d'Allemagne

Un grand merci Jens pour cette très intéressante lettre envoyée le 23 avril 2022 depuis le port de Bremerhaven (Land de Brême) où est situé l'Institut Alfred Wegener (AWI) pour la recherche polaire et marine.
Le TAD bleu spécial, mis en circulation en collaboration avec le groupe de travail de philatélie polaire ("Arbeitsgemeinschaft Polarphilatelie e.V."), fondé en 1970 et membre de l'association des philatélistes allemand, rend hommage à Sir Ernest Shackleton (1874-1922) à l'occasion du 100ème anniversaire de sa disparition.
L'anglo-irlandais Ernest Henry Shackleton est considéré comme l'un des premiers grands explorateurs du monde polaire. Ses expéditions héroïques, son courage et sa solidarité envers ses équipiers marquèrent des générations d'aventuriers. 
Ce TAD représente un portrait de l'explorateur ainsi que "L'Endurance", le trois-mâts goélette avec lequel Sir Ernest Shackleton mena son expédition transantarctique de 1914.

The special blue postmark, put into circulation in collaboration with the Polar Philately Working Group ("Arbeitsgemeinschaft Polarphilatelie e.V."), founded in 1970 and a member of the German Philatelist Association, pays tribute to Sir Ernest Shackleton (1874-1922) on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of his death.
The Anglo-Irish Ernest Henry Shackleton is considered one of the first great explorers of the polar world. His heroic expeditions, his courage and his solidarity with his teammates marked generations of adventurers.
This postmark shows a portrait of the explorer as well as the "Endurance", the three-masted barquentine with which Sir Ernest Shackleton led his 1914 transantarctic expedition.

 

L'Endurance, construit à Sandefjord en Norvège en 1912, coula trois ans plus tard, écrasé par les glaces en mer de Weddell au large de l'Antarctique. L'épave est retrouvée en 2022, gisant par 3000 mètres de fond.
En 1921, Shackleton entreprend un nouveau périple à bord du Quest, afinc d'effectuer un tour du continent Antarctique et de ses îles mal localisées. Le 22 janvier 1922, alors qu'il vient de jeter l'ancre dans le port de Grytwiken, en Géorgie du Sud, Shackleton meurt subitement.
Sa disparition annonce la fin d'une époque, celle de la course à l'exploration du dernier continent vierge. Il deviendra bientôt une légende pour les marins, les explorateurs du monde polaire ou même les montagnards. Sa tombe est aujourd'hui visible en Géorgie du Sud, au pied de la montagne Ducie Fell.
Cette tombe figure sur le timbre (0,85€) utilisé sur cette enveloppe, faisant partie d'une série de 5 timbres personnalisés "Briefmarke Individuel" différents, consacrés à Sir Ernest Shackleton, mis en circulation en même temps que le TAD.
The Endurance, built in Sandefjord in Norway in 1912, sank three years later, crushed by ice in the Weddell Sea off Antarctica. The wreckage was found in 2022, lying at a depth of 3000 meters.
In 1921, Shackleton embarked on a new journey aboard the Quest, to tour the Antarctic continent and its poorly located islands. On January 22, 1922, when he had just anchored in the port of Grytwiken, South Georgia, Shackleton died suddenly.
His death announced the end of an era, that of the race to explore the last virgin continent. He soon became a legend for sailors, explorers of the polar world or even mountaineers. His grave can be seen today in South Georgia at the foot of Ducie Fell Mountain.
This grave is featured on the stamp (€0.85) used on this envelope, part of a series of 5 different personalized "Briefmarke Individuel" stamps, dedicated to Sir Ernest Shackleton, put into circulation at the same time as the postmark.
