Christmas covers

En ce 1er jour de l'année 2010, je publie quelques-uns des courriers reçus récemment affranchis avec des timbres spécialement émis pour les festivités de Noël ou de Nouvel An.
Commençons ce tour du monde par l'Australie avec ce très réussi FDC, émis le 2 novembre 2009, avec un "1er jour" de circonstance qui a eu lieu dans la ville de St. Marys sur l'île de Tasmanie.

La poste australienne a, de la même façon que la poste italienne, émis 2 séries de timbres consacrés à Noël : une série de 5 timbres évoquant des thèmes non religieux (arbre de Noël, cadeaux...) et une série de 2 timbres évoquant la naissance de Jésus-Christ.
On this 1st day of the year 2010, I'm happy to publish some letters recently received franked with stamps specially issued for the Christmas and New Year festivities.
Let's start this world tour in Australia with this very successful FDC issued on November 2, 2009, with a ad hoc FDC cancellation from the town of St. Marys on the Island of Tasmania.

Australia Post has, in the same way as the Italian Post Office, issued two sets of stamps devoted to Christmas : a set of five stamps evoking non-religious themes (Christmas tree, gifts...) and a set of two stamps devoted to the Birth of Jesus.

Ces 2 timbres ont également été émis dans le joli bloc-feuillet ci-dessus incluant la mention "Joy to the world" dans la marge supérieure. La vierge Marie avec l'enfant Jésus ainsi que les 3 rois mages sont représentés sur ces 2 timbres très colorés conçus par Mike Heine.
Ben a complété son affranchissement avec un timbre à 5c, émis le 4 mai 2004, faisant partie du 5ème et dernier cycle (4 timbres) de la série courante consacrée à des espèces animales vivant dans différents habitats de l'Australie, la forêt tropicale (parc national de Daintree dans le Queensland) ici avec ce papillon Cethosia cydippe.
Le dernier timbre (10c) fait partie d'une série de 6 timbres, émis le 5 mars 2007, représentant de splendides paysages d'îles australiennes, l'île Maria (Tasmanie) ici, située à 88 km au nord-est d'Hobart, découverte par Abel Tasman en 1642.
These two stamps were also issued in the beautiful souvenir sheet above including the words "Joy to the world" in the top margin. The Virgin Mary with Child Jesus and the three Wise Men are depicted on these two colorful stamps designed by Mike Heine.
Ben has completed his postage with a 5c stamp, issued on May 4, 2004, part of the fifth and last cycle (four stamps) from the definitive series devoted to animal species living in different habitats of Australia, tropical rainforest (Daintree National Park, Queensland) here with this Red lacewing (Cethosia cydippe) butterfly.
The last stamp (10c) is part of a series of six stamps, issued on March 5, 2007, devoted to beautiful landscapes of different islands in Australia, the Maria Island, Tasmania here, located 88 km north-east of Hobart , first sighted by Abel Tasman in 1642.

La poste polonaise a également évoqué une scène de la Nativité dans sa série de 2 timbres dédiés à Noël ("Boże Narodzenie" en polonais), émis le 27 novembre 2009.
Ces 2 timbres figurent sur le FDC officiel de la poste polonaise ci-dessus. Merci beaucoup Kazimierz :-)
Marie, Joseph et l'enfant Jésus sont représentés sur le timbre à 2,40 PLN tandis que des anges interprétant des chants de Noël devant un arbre décoré figurent sur celui à 1,55 PLN (imprimé à 30 millions d'exemplaires !). Les 1ers chants de Noël sont apparus en Pologne au 15ème siècle mais les plus connus datent du 19ème siècle : "Z narodzenia Pana", "Pójdźmy wszyscy do stajenki", Mędrcy świata" ou "Bóg się rodzi".
A noter le joli timbre à date émis à Varsovie montrant un âne et l'étoile de Bethléem.
The Polish Post has also evoked a Nativity scene on its series of two stamps dedicated to Christmas ("Boże Narodzenie" in Polish), issued on November 27, 2009.

Mary with Joseph and Baby Jesus are depicted on the PLN 2.40 stamp while angels singing Christmas carols in front of a decorated tree are on the other PLN 1.55 stamp (print run : 30 million !). The first Christmas carols have appeared in Poland in the 15th century but the most famous date from the 19th century : "Z narodzenia Pana", "Pójdźmy wszyscy do stajenki", Mędrcy świata" or "Bóg się rodzi".
Note also the beautiful FDC cancellation issued in Warsaw showing a donkey and the Star of Bethlehem.

Comme chaque fin d'année, la poste croate a émis un timbre consacré à Noël et un timbre consacré à la nouvelle année ("Nova godina" en croate). C'est ce dernier timbre, émis le 24 novembre 2009, qui figure en 2 exemplaires (gommé et autocollant) sur la jolie lettre ci-dessus.

Ce timbre a en fait été émis en feuille de 20 timbres (version gommée) mais aussi en carnet de 10 timbres (version autocollante). Il reproduit un dessin de Leonarda Štorga, élève d'une école primaire de Zagreb, représentant un joli bonhomme de neige. Comme les années précédentes, ce dessin est le lauréat d'un concours de dessins pour enfants.
Dragan a complété son affranchissement avec un timbre (1 kn) faisant partie de la très réussie série, émise sur plusieurs années, consacrée à des châteaux et forteresses du pays. Ce timbre, émis le 21 septembre 2006, montre l'église fortifiée Sainte-Marie de Vrboska, datant du 16ème siècle, située sur la côte nord de l'île de Hvar.
As on each Season's period, the Croatian Post has issued a stamp dedicated to Christmas and a stamp dedicated to the New Year ("Nova godina" in Croatian). This last stamp, issued on November 24, 2009, is included in two copies (gummed and self-adhesive) on the pretty letter above.

This stamp was actually issued in sheet of 20 stamps (gummed version) but also in a booklet of 10 stamps (self-adhesive version). It reproduces a drawing by Leonarda Štorga, pupil of an elementary school in Zagreb, representing a snowman. As in previous years, this design is the winner of a children's drawing contest.
Dragan has completed his postage with a stamp (kn 1.00), part of the very successful series, issued during several years, devoted to castles and fortresses in the country. This stamp, issued on September 21, 2006, is about the fortified Church of St. Mary of Mercy in Vrboska, dating from the 16th century, located on the north coast of the island of Hvar.

J'ai eu la chance de recevoir aussi cette intéressante carte pré-timbrée ci-dessus, émise le 2 juin 2003, à l'occasion du 3ème voyage du pape Jean-Paul II en Croatie, du 5 au 9 juin 2003.

Après 1994 et 1998, le pape a visité en 2003 les villes de Dubrovnik, Osijek, Djakovo, Rijeka et Zadar mentionnées sur le timbre et sur la partie gauche de cette carte. Ce voyage apostolique du pape en Croatie fut aussi son 100ème voyage à l'étranger.
A noter qu'un timbre à 2,30 kn reprenant le même visuel que celui ci-dessus, fut également émis par la poste croate le 2 juin 2003. Des timbres commémoratifs avaient déjà été émis en 1994 et 1998 pour les 2 précédentes visites de Jean-Paul II en Croatie, dont 90% de la population se déclare catholique.
Nenad a ajouté le timbre de Noël ("Božić" en croate) à 3,50 kn, émis le 4 décembre 2009, reproduisant un bas-relief en bois (datant du 17ème siècle) représentant une scène de l'Adoration des bergers, conservée dans l'église paroissiale Saint-Michel de Žminj, en Istrie.
Ce timbre a aussi été émis en carnet de 10 timbres autocollants. Un 2ème timbre (8 kn) fait partie de cette série, montrant un gros-plan de la partie centrale de ce même bas-relief.
I was also luchy enough to receive this interesting postal stationery card above, issued on June 2, 2003, at the occasion of the third trip of Pope John Paul II in Croatia from June 5 to 9, 2003.

After 1994 and 1998, the Pope has visited in 2003 the cities of Dubrovnik, Osijek, Djakovo, Rijeka and Zadar mentioned on the stamp and also on the left part on this card. This Pope's apostolic trip to Croatia was also his 100th trip abroad.
Note also that a kn 2.30 stamp including the same design as on the one above, was also issued by Croatian Post on June 2, 2003. Commemorative stamps were also issued in 1994 and 1998 for the two previous visits of John Paul II in Croatia, where 90% of the population is Catholic.
Nenad has added the Christmas ("Božić" in Croatian) stamp to 3.50 kn, issued on December 4, 2009, reproducing a wood bas-relief (17th century) depicting a scene of the Adoration of the Shepherds, preserved in the St. Michael parish church of Žminj in Istria.
This stamp was also issued in booklets of 10 self-adhesive stamps. A 2nd stamp (kn 8.00) is part of this series, showing a close-up view of the central part of that same bas-relief.

An ATM stamp has also been applied, to complete the postage, including the logo of the "www.Argentina.ar" promotion portal of Argentina (tourism, economy, culture...).

Voici ci-dessus les 4 timbres émis par l'USPS pour célébrer les vacances d'hiver. Ces timbres ont été émis, en carnet de 20 timbres autocollants, le 8 octobre 2009 en avant-première lors du "Mega Stamp Show" organisé à New York.

Vous aurez reconnu sur ces 4 timbres un bonhomme de neige, un jouet (soldat), un bonhomme en pain d'épice et un renne.
A noter que l'USPS a également émis le 20 octobre 2009 un timbre consacré à Noël (Madone du peintre italien Sassoferrato).

You may recognize on these four stamps a snowman, a toy (soldier), a Gingerbread man and a reindeer.
It's worth noting that the USPS has also issued on October 20, 2009 a Christmas stamp (a Madonna by the Italian painter Sassoferrato).

Cette dernière carte postale ci-dessus a été postée depuis le célèbre village du Père Noël à Rovaniemi (Laponie), situé sur le cercle polaire arctique ("Napapiiri" en finnois).
Merci beaucoup Hannele pour cette carte postée le 20 décembre 2009, avec cette intéressante oblitération spéciale montrant le Père Noël au-dessus d'un globe terrestre sur lequel figure la position du cercle polaire sur une carte de la Finlande :-)
Hannele a eu la bonne idée de choisir le timbre de Noël (1ère classe, soit 0,80€ actuellement) émis le 2 avril 2001, en carnet de 10 timbres autocollants, montrant un Père Noël sur son traineau tiré par des rennes, s'envolant dans le ciel...
This last postcard above was mailed from the now famous Santa Claus Village in Rovaniemi (Lapland), located on the Arctic Circle ("Napapiiri" in Finnish).
