Fête du Timbre 2011 en France

2011 Stamp Festival in France

As usual since 1938, the "Fête du Timbre" ("Stamp Festival") took place throughout France (in 107 cities exactly) on 26 and 27 February 2011.
On this occasion, the French Post has issued a series of more or less commemorative stamps : a souvenir sheet (€ 2.00 stamp), a stamp declined from Beaujard's Marianne, an eco-booklet of 12 stamps and finally a "gadget" collector of 10 personalized stamps (with 5 stamps including seeds ready to plant...).
After the protection of water in 2010, the theme chosen this year was the protection of the earth. This cycle of four years devoted to sustainable development will therefore continue in 2012 (the Stamp Festival will be held in October) and 2013...

This Stamp Festival was held in my hometown of Lyon and here is above the stamp souvenir I sent to myself :-)
I really like the simplicity of the special cancellation (without the words "first day of issue") recalling a sunflower.
The stamp in the upper right is part of the recyclable "Earth Mother" booklet composed of 12 different stamps designed on cotton paper (thicker than usual), reproducing illustrations by 9 artists, a fruit tree by Henri Galeron here.

Here is above the flyer devoted to this Stamp Festival held in Lyon in the town hall of the 8th arrondissement.
A good idea this theme of "protecting the Earth", but too bad to notice that the souvenir sheet, the booklet of 12 stamps and the collector were offered to the public packed in blister non-recyclable plastic... Congratulations to the marketing experts of the French Post !!!

I was very lucky to receive two other souvenirs (above and below) mailed from this same Stamp Festival !
The letter above was mailed from the town of Sablé-sur-Sarthe (Sarthe department). Thank you very much to my sister Annabelle for her valuable contribution :-)
The souvenir sheet is reproducing a botanical print entitled "Rubis Strawberry" part of the collections of the Museum National d'Histoire Naturelle (MNHN) in Paris, designed by painter Alfred Riocreux and engraved by Philibert Picart.
This sheet, with mixed intaglio/offset printing process, has the particularity of being both scented (strawberry of course !) and being printed on both sides (a world first ?).
But hence, this sheet is not gummed on its entire back (only on three vertical stripes)... so difficult to stick properly...

The second cover above was mailed on February 26, 2011 in Paris. Thank you very much Eric :-)
This is the special "Marianne" stamp that appears above including the words "Let's protect the Earth" and a "green" hand on its left part (after waves last year).
Unfortunately, this letter was massacred with this mechanical cancellation affixed on the same day when it passed through the mail industrial platform ("PIC" in French) of Gonesse (25635A) in the Paris region...
