Un grand merci Mahir pour cette très jolie lettre envoyée le 30 avril 2020 depuis Bakou, la capitale de l'Azerbaïdjan, affranchie avec la série EUROPA complète (2 timbres + 1 bloc-feuillet), émise le 27 septembre 2019, consacrée cette année là aux oiseaux nationaux !
Sauf erreur de ma part, l'Azerbaïdjan émet des timbres EUROPA depuis 1998 alors que le pays n'est toujours pas officiellement membre de l'organisation postale européenne PostEurop même si le pays participe chaque année à la sélection pour désigner le plus beau timbre EUROPA (vote du public en ligne)...
Les 2 timbres isolés (0,5 manat et 0,6 manat, tirage : 200000 chacun), imprimés chacun (en France par Cartor Security Printing) en feuillet de 10 timbres ainsi que dans un carnet de 8 timbres (4 de chaque, non dentelés sur un côté), représentent respectivement un roselin cramoisi (Carpodacus erythrinus) et une perdrix choukar (Alectoris chukar).

Unless I am mistaken, Azerbaijan has been issuing EUROPA stamps since 1998 while the country is still not officially a member of the European postal organization PostEurop even though the country participates each year in the selection to designate the best EUROPA stamp (Online public vote) ...
The two isolated stamps (0.5 manat and 0.6 manat, print run: 200,000 each), each printed (in France by Cartor Security Printing) in sheetlets of 10 stamps as well as in a booklet of 8 stamps (4 of each, imperforated on one side), represent respectively a common rosefinch (Carpodacus erythrinus) and a choukar partridge (Alectoris chukar).
A noter une curiosité sur cette série : le timbre "roselin cramoisi" (0,5 manat) comporte le nom de l'oiseau en azéri et en anglais alors que l'autre timbre et le bloc-feuillet comportent les noms en azéri et latin...
Autre curiosité, une autre espèce de perdrix, le tétraogalle de Perse (Tetraogallus caspius), est considérée comme l'oiseau national en Azerbaïdjan, étrange donc qu'il ne figure pas sur cette série...
Le bloc-feuillet (1,5 manat, tirage : 40000) est consacré à la huppe fasciée (Upupa epops), l'Azerbaïdjan faisant partie de sa vaste zone de nidification (entre l'Europe de l'ouest et la Chine).
J'aime beaucoup cette série, très colorée et différente de celles émises par les autres pays, créée conjointement par l'artiste Orkhan Garayev et le graphiste Anar Mustafayev.
371 espèces d'oiseaux (dont 9 sont rares ou accidentelles) ont été recensées en Azerbaïdjan.

The souvenir sheet (1.5 manat, print run: 40,000) is devoted to the Eurasian hoopoe (Upupa epops), Azerbaijan being part of its vast nesting area (between Western Europe and China).
I really like this series, very colorful and different from those issued by other countries, created jointly by artist Orkhan Garayev and graphic designer Anar Mustafayev.
