Le 8 mai 2020, la poste autrichienne a mis en circulation son timbre EUROPA (1€, tirage : 215000) consacrée cette année au thème des anciennes routes postales ("Historische Postrouten").
Ce timbre, conçu par David Gruber et imprimé aux Pays-Bas par Joh. Enschedé Stamps B.V., figure sur ce joli pli Premier Jour, avec TAD (cor postal) de Deutschlandsberg (Styrie, sud-est du pays). Merci beaucoup Edna !
Je ne sais pas exactement pourquoi cette commune de Deutschlandsberg a été choisie pour ce Premier Jour, peut-être un lien avec une ancienne route postale mise en place par la célèbre famille Thurn und Taxis, mentionnée sur ce timbre ?
On May 8, 2020, the Austrian Post put into circulation its EUROPA stamp (€ 1.00, print run: 215,000) devoted this year to the theme of the ancient postal routes ("Historische Postrouten").
This stamp, designed by David Gruber and printed in the Netherlands by Joh. Enschedé Stamps B.V., is present on this pretty First Day cover, with cancellation (postal horn) from Deutschlandsberg (Styria, south-east of the country). Thank you very much Edna!
I do not know exactly why this town of Deutschlandsberg was chosen for this First Day, maybe a link with an ancient postal route set up by the famous Thurn und Taxis family, mentioned on this stamp?

Ce timbre reproduit en effet une des illustrations extraites d'une "carte de la capitale provinciale impériale et royale d'Innsbruck et des environs", datant du 19ème siècle, représentant en particulier le Palais Fugger-Taxis à Innsbruck.
Ce palais baroque a été construit à partir de 1679 par Hans Otto Fugger von Kirchberg-Weißenhorn selon les plans de Johann Martin Gumpp l'Ancien.
En 1784, le bâtiment fut vendu à Joseph Sebastian von Thurn et Taxis, le maître de poste, qui l'utilisa non seulement comme résidence, mais aussi comme bureau de poste.
La famille allemande Thurn und Taxis a en effet dirigé un important service postal en Europe dès le 16ème siècle et Innsbruck était une étape importante sur ce réseau postal, avec des routes allant vers la Belgique, Vienne et l'Italie.
Ce palais appartient au Land du Tyrol depuis 1905 (il cessa d'être un bureau postal en 1908) et il abrite aujourd'hui des bureaux de l'administration d'État et une galerie d' art contemporain.
This stamp reproduces one of the illustrations taken from a "Map of Imperial and Royal Provincial Capital Innsbruck and surroundings", dating from the 19th century, representing in particular the Fugger-Taxis Palace in Innsbruck.

In 1784 the building was sold to Joseph Sebastian von Thurn and Taxis, the postmaster, who used it not only as a residence, but also as a post office.
The German Thurn and Taxis family indeed ran an important postal service in Europe from the 16th century onwards and Innsbruck was an important stopover on this postal network, with routes going to Belgium, Vienna and Italy.
This palace has belonged to the Land of Tyrol since 1905 (it ceased to be a postal office in 1908) and it now houses state administration offices and a gallery of contemporary art.
