TAD et timbre "80 ans de la visite du général de Gaulle à La Baule" sur lettre de France
2025 marque le 80ème anniversaire de la libération de la poche de Saint-Nazaire de l'occupant allemand. Afin de commémorer cet événement majeur de son histoire, la ville de La Baule-Escoublac (44 - Loire-Atlantique) a initié depuis le début de l'année un parcours mémoriel.
Il a trouvé son point d'orgue le 23 juillet 2025 avec l'inauguration, Place du 18 juin 1940, d'une croix de Lorraine (4 mètres de haut), symbole de l'esprit de résistance.
Ce jour a été choisi en souvenir du 23 juillet 1945, lorsque le général de Gaulle, qui présidait alors le gouvernement provisoire de la République française, atterrit sur le terrain d'aviation d'Escoublac, puis se rendit à Saint-Nazaire où il a prononcé un discours, après un bain de foule, puis parcouru les rues de la ville, en grande partie détruite par les bombardements alliés...
Ce 23 juillet 2025, le Cercle philatélique de La Baule et de la Presqu'île guérandaise proposait au public un timbre personnalisé spécial consacré au 80ème anniversaire de cette visite du général de Gaulle à La Baule-Escoublac.
2025 marks the 80th anniversary of the liberation of the Saint-Nazaire pocket from the German occupation. To commemorate this major event in its history, the town of La Baule-Escoublac (44 - Loire-Atlantique) launched a memorial trail at the beginning of the year.
It culminated on July 23, 2025, with the unveiling of a 4-meter-high Cross of Lorraine in Place du 18 juin 1940, a symbol of the spirit of resistance.
This day was chosen to commemorate July 23, 1945, when General de Gaulle, then President of the Provisional Government of the French Republic, landed at the Escoublac airfield and traveled to Saint-Nazaire, where he delivered a speech after greeting crowds and then toured the streets of the city, largely destroyed by Allied bombing...
On July 23, 2025, the Philatelic Society of La Baule and the Guérande Peninsula offered the public a special personalized stamp commemorating the 80th anniversary of General de Gaulle's visit to La Baule-Escoublac.
Un bureau temporaire de La Poste a mis en circulation un TAD (Croix de Lorraine et V de la victoire) pour accompagner l'émission de ce timbre (tarif "Lettre Verte 20g", tirage inconnu), illustrant l'inauguration de cette croix de Lorraine, un portrait du général de Gaulle et la célèbre plage de La Baule.
Ce timbre et TAD figurent sur la lettre ci-dessus, qui a transité par le CTC d'Orvault Nantes (08870A) le 17 octobre 2025, presque 3 mois après cette émission du 23 juillet 2025... Merci beaucoup François !
Pour revenir à la poche de Saint-Nazaire, il s'agit d'une zone de résistance de 1500 km2 des troupes allemandes (environ 28000 soldats) repliées
autour de Saint-Nazaire, de part et d'autre
de l'estuaire de la Loire, du mois d'août 1944 au 11 mai 1945.
Elle se crée lorsque des troupes allemandes de l'ouest de la France se replient sur cette zone fortifiée, au moment où les troupes alliées, débarquées en Normandie le 6 juin, libèrent les grandes villes de Rennes et de Nantes en août 1944. Sur le plan stratégique, elle a pour but d'empêcher les Alliés d'utiliser un grand port, ici celui de Saint-Nazaire ainsi que celui de Nantes.
Ce n'est que le 8 mai 1945, jour de la capitulation du Troisième Reich à Berlin, qu'est signé à Cordemais l'acte de reddition des troupes allemandes de la poche, une cérémonie officielle ayant lieu le 11 mai à l'hippodrome de Bouvron.
A temporary post office put into circulation a postmark (featuring the Cross of Lorraine and the V for Victory) to accompany the issue of this stamp ("Green Letter 20g" rate, unknown print run), illustrating the inauguration of this Cross of Lorraine, a portrait of General de Gaulle, and the famous La Baule beach.
This stamp and postmark have been used on the cover above, which passed through the Orvault Nantes mail sorting center (08870A) on October 17, 2025, almost three months after the July 23, 2025 issue... Thank you very much, François!
To return to the Saint-Nazaire pocket, this was a 1,500 km² area of resistance held by German troops (approximately 28,000 soldiers) who retreated around Saint-Nazaire, on both sides of the Loire estuary, from August 1944 to May 11, 1945.
It was created when German troops from western France withdrew to this fortified area, at the same time as Allied troops, who had landed in Normandy on June 6, liberated the major cities of Rennes and Nantes in August 1944. Strategically, its purpose was to prevent the Allies from using a major port, in this case, Saint-Nazaire and Nantes.
It was only on May 8, 1945, the day of the surrender of the Third Reich in Berlin, that the act of surrender of the German troops in the pocket was signed in Cordemais, an official ceremony taking place on May 11 at the Bouvron racecourse.
