Dans un message publié sur ce blog le 16 août 2014, je partageais avec vous un pli Premier Jour de Roumanie concernant une série de timbres, émise le 25 juillet 2014, intitulée "In Memoriam" qui rendait hommage aux héros nationaux qui ont combattu ou sacrifié leurs vies lors de la 1ère guerre mondiale.
Parmi les 3 timbres de cette série, celui à 1L était consacré à l'Ordre de Michel le Brave ("Ordinul Mihai Viteazul"), la plus haute distinction militaire roumaine, institué en 1916 par le roi Ferdinand Ier.
Son portrait figure sur ce timbre à côté de celui d'Alexandru Averescu, décoré de cet ordre, qui fut maréchal et premier ministre pendant la 1ère guerre mondiale.
In a post published on this blog on August 16, 2014, I shared with you a first day cover from Romania about a series of stamps, issued on July 25, 2014, entitled "In Memoriam" which paid tribute to the national heroes who fought and sacrificed their lives during the first World War.
Among the three stamps in this set, the L 1.00 stamp was dedicated to the Order of Michael the Brave ("Ordinul Mihai Viteazul"), the highest Romanian military award, established in 1916 by King Ferdinand I.
His portrait appears on that stamp next to Alexandru Averescu's portrait, awarded with this order, who was Marshal and Prime Minister during the first World War.

L'enveloppe ci-dessus commémore le 100ème anniversaire de la mort et de la fin de règne du roi Charles I (Carol I) alors que celle ci-dessous évoque les 100 ans du début de règne de son successeur, le roi Ferdinand I.
Carol I (1839-1914), prince de Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen, fut prince souverain des principautés unies de Roumanie entre 1866 et 1881 puis roi de Roumanie à partir de 1881 (4 ans après la proclamation de l'indépendance), jusqu'en 1914.

Carol I (1839-1914), Prince of Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen, was sovereign prince of the United Principalities of Romania between 1866 and 1881 and then King of Romania from 1881 (four years after the proclamation of independence), until 1914.

A la mort du roi Carol I le 10 octobre 1914, c'est son 2ème neveu, Ferdinand, Prince héritier depuis 1866, qui monte sur le trône de Roumanie.
Ferdinand I (1865-1927) dirige alors un pays en pleine tourmente au début de la 1ère guerre mondiale. La Roumanie restera neutre dans un 1er temps avant que le Conseil de la Couronne n'ordonne la mobilisation générale et ne déclare la guerre à l'Autriche-Hongrie et à l'Allemagne le 27 août 1916...
A sa mort en 1927, son petit-fils, Michel I, lui succède. Il régnera 2 fois, entre 1927 et 1930 puis entre 1940 et 1947, l'année de le prise de pouvoir par les communistes et la fin de la monarchie...
