Série EUROPA 2021 (Faune en voie de disparition) sur FDC d'Irlande
Heureux de partager ce très élégant FDC officiel mis en circulation le 6 mai 2021 par la poste irlandaise anpost, concernant la série EUROPA (2 timbres) consacrée cette année à la faune nationale en voie de disparition ("Fiadhúlra Náisiúnta atá i mBaol" en gaélique).
A noter que le TAD fait référence au nom gaélique de Dublin ("Baile Átha Cliath").
Cette série (illustrations par Shevaun Doherty), conçue par Jenny Dempsey et imprimée aux Pays-Bas par Royal Joh. Enschedé (chaque timbre en feuillet de 16 timbres), évoque 2 espèces de papillons et mollusques particulièrement menacés dans le pays.
Le premier timbre (tarif domestique "N" pour un envoi jusqu'à 100g, 1,10€ actuellement) représente une espèce de papillon de nuit, le bombyx bicolore (Leucodonta bicoloria).
Happy to share this very elegant official FDC put into circulation on May 6, 2021 by the Irish Post anpost, concerning the EUROPA series (2 stamps) dedicated this year to the endangered national wildlife ("Fiadhúlra Náisiúnta atá i mBaol" in Gaelic ).
To note that the postmark refers to the Gaelic name of Dublin ("Baile Átha Cliath").
This series (illustrations by Shevaun Doherty), designed by Jenny Dempsey and printed in the Netherlands by Royal Joh. Enschedé (each stamp in a sheet of 16 stamps), features two species of moths and molluscs particularly threatened in the country.
The first stamp (domestic rate "N" for a shipment up to 100g, currently € 1.10) represents a species of moth, the white prominent moth (Leucodonta bicoloria).
Ce papillon dont l'aire de répartition s'étend de l'ouest de l'Europe jusqu'au Japon, était considéré comme une espèce éteinte en Irlande et Grande-Bretagne avant d'être redécouverte en 2008 dans le comté de Kerry (sud-ouest de l'île).
L'autre timbre (tarif international "W" pour un envoi jusqu'à 100g, 2,00€ actuellement) est consacré à la moule perlière d'eau douce (Margaritifera margaritifera), un mollusque lamellibranche des rivières claires d'Europe, de Russie, du Canada et de la côte est des États-Unis.
Cette espèce est très rare et en voie de disparition en Irlande et Europe occidentale, ne vivant que dans les rivières très propres, la survie de l'espèce étant menacée par la pollution.
A noter qu'un des 2 timbres EUROPA émis cette année par la poste lettone représentait cette même espèce.
L'illustration sur l'enveloppe montre une limace de Kerry (Geomalacus maculosus) dont l'aire de répartition comprend le sud-ouest de l'Irlande, le nord-ouest de l'Espagne et le centre et nord du Portugal.
En Irlande, le Wildlife Act est le principal mécanisme de protection législative des espèces qui ont une valeur de conservation importante.
This butterfly, whose range extends from western Europe to Japan, was considered an extinct species in Ireland and Britain before being rediscovered in 2008 in County Kerry (south west of the island).
The other stamp (international rate "W" for a shipment up to 100g, currently € 2.00) is devoted to the freshwater pearl mussel (Margaritifera margaritifera), a lamellibranch mollusk from the clear rivers of Europe, Russia, Canada and the east coast of the United States.
This species is very rare and endangered in Ireland and Western Europe, living only in very clean rivers, the survival of the species being threatened by pollution.
To note that one of the two EUROPA stamps issued this year by the Latvian Post represented the same species.
The illustration on the envelope shows a Kerry slug (Geomalacus maculosus) whose range includes southwestern Ireland, northwestern Spain, and central and northern Portugal.
In Ireland, the Wildlife Act is the main legislative protection mechanism for species of significant conservation value.
