Un grand merci Pierre pour cette splendide lettre envoyée le 24 janvier 2021 depuis la base scientifique française Dumont d'Urville en Antarctique (Terre Adélie).
Comme de coutume, une marque rectangulaire, mentionnant la latitude et la longitude de la base Dumont d'Urville, a été appliquée en bas à gauche sur cette enveloppe, ainsi qu'une empreinte évoquant la 71ème expédition antarctique française en Terre Adélie en 2021.
A noter cet imposant cachet à gauche évoquant le vol n°5 d'un Basler BT-67 ce jour là (est-ce que cette lettre a été transportée à son bord ?).
Construit par la compagnie américaine Basler Turbo Conversions, cet avion (1ère mise en service en 1990) assure la liaison (transport de passagers et de matériel) entre la base Dumont d'Urville, la station de recherche franco-italienne Concordia et la station de recherche italienne Mario-Zucchelli (ou Base italienne de la baie Terra Nova).

As usual, a rectangular mark, indicating the latitude and longitude of this Dumont d'Urville base, was applied at the bottom left on this envelope, as well as an imprint evoking the 71th French Antarctic Expedition in Adélie Land in 2021. 
To note this imposing cachet on the left evoking the flight n°5 of a Basler BT-67 that day (was this envelope carried on board?).
Built by the American company Basler Turbo Conversions, this aircraft (first put into service in 1990) ensures the connection (transport of passengers and equipment) between the Dumont d'Urville base, the Franco-Italian Concordia research station and the Italian research Mario-Zucchelli base (or Italian Base in Terra Nova Bay).

Concordia (active depuis 1997, installée au Dôme C à 3233 mètres d'altitude), l'une des trois stations à l'intérieur du continent antarctique fonctionnant toute l'année, est située à environ 1145 kilomètres de la base Dumont d'Urville et à 1200 kilomètres de la station côtière italienne Mario-Zucchelli.
Le timbre rond (0,85€) fait partie d'un bloc-feuillet (conception : Sophie Beaujard, tirage : 36000) émis le 2 janvier 2018, consacré au 20ème anniversaire de l'entrée en vigueur du Protocole de Madrid ou protocole au traité sur l'Antarctique relatif à la protection de l'environnement. 
Comptant 32 états parties depuis 2004, ce Protocole établit une protection globale de l'environnement en Antarctique. Parmi ses dispositions, il est mentionné que "l'Antarctique est une réserve naturelle consacrée à la paix et à la science" et l'interdiction des activités relatives aux ressources minérales autres que celles menées à des fins scientifiques.

Concordia (active since 1997, installed in Dome C at 3,233 meters above sea level), one of the three stations in the interior of the Antarctic continent operating all year round, is located approximately 1,145 kilometers from the Dumont d'Urville base and 1,200 kilometers from the Italian coastal Mario-Zucchelli base.

The round stamp (€0.85) is part of a souvenir sheet (design: Sophie Beaujard, print run: 36,000) issued on January 2, 2018, dedicated to the 20th anniversary of the entry into force of the Madrid Protocol or Protocol on Environmental Protection to the Antarctic Treaty.

With 32 States Parties since 2004, this Protocol establishes global environmental protection in Antarctica. Among its provisions, it is mentioned that "Antarctica is a natural reserve devoted to peace and science" and the prohibition of activities relating to mineral resources other than those carried out for scientific purposes.
