Timbre "100 ans de relations diplomatiques avec les USA" sur lettre d'Estonie
La République d'Estonie et les États-Unis célèbrent en 2022 le centenaire de leurs relations diplomatiques. Le 28 juillet 1922, les États-Unis ont en effet officiellement reconnu de jure la République souveraine d'Estonie.
La première déclaration d'indépendance de l'Estonie est l'acte fondateur
de la république d'Estonie en date du 24 février 1918, dans un contexte
de retrait de la Russie et l'avancée des troupes allemandes.
Après
la fin de la Première Guerre mondiale en novembre 1918, l'Allemagne
retira ses troupes d'Estonie et transmit formellement ses pouvoirs au
gouvernement provisoire estonien. L'invasion des bolcheviks russes et la
guerre d'indépendance de l'Estonie suivit.
Le 2 février 1920, le
traité de paix de Tartu fut signé par la république d'Estonie et l'URSS
et la république d'Estonie obtint une reconnaissance internationale en
devenant membre de la Société des Nations en 1921.
The Republic of Estonia and the United States celebrate in 2022 the centenary of their diplomatic relations. On July 28, 1922, the United States indeed officially recognized de jure the sovereign Republic of Estonia.
Estonia's first declaration of
independence is the founding act of the Republic of Estonia dated
February 24, 1918, in the context of the withdrawal of Russia and the
advance of German troops.
After the end of World War I in November
1918, Germany withdrew its troops from Estonia and formally handed over
its powers to the Provisional Estonian Government. The invasion of the
Russian Bolsheviks and the Estonian War of Independence followed.
On
February 2, 1920, the Tartu Peace Treaty was signed by the Republic of
Estonia and the USSR and the Republic of Estonia gained international
recognition by becoming a member of the League of Nations in 1921.
Les États-Unis n'ont jamais reconnu l'annexion forcée de l'Estonie par
l'Union soviétique. Alors que l'Estonie subissait l'occupation, le
drapeau de la République souveraine d'Estonie était exposé au
Département d'État américain aux côtés des drapeaux d'autres nations
souveraines.
Pour célébrer ce 100ème anniversaire des relations diplomatiques, la poste estonienne a mis en circulation, le 17 juin 2022, un timbre représentant simplement les drapeaux des 2 pays, ainsi que la mention en anglais "100 years strong". 2022 marque également le centenaire de l'adoption du drapeau bleu, noir et blanc comme drapeau national de l'Estonie.
Ce timbre (1,90€, tirage : 20000), conçu par Indrek Ilves et imprimé en feuillet de 10 timbres, a été utilisé sur cette lettre envoyée le 30 juin 2022 depuis le bureau de poste "Finest Postkontor" à Tallinn. Merci beaucoup Simone !
Aujourd'hui, l'Estonie et les États-Unis sont unis pour défendre les valeurs démocratiques et l'ordre mondial, et entretiennent d'excellentes relations en tant que proches alliés au sein de l'OTAN.
A noter que la poste de Lettonie a également émis cette année un timbre consacré au 100ème anniversaire des relations diplomatiques avec les États-Unis. Aucun timbre similaire du coté lituanien...
The United States never recognized the forced annexation of Estonia by the Soviet Union. As Estonia suffered the occupation, the flag of the sovereign Republic of Estonia was displayed at the US State Department alongside the flags of other sovereign nations.
To celebrate this 100th anniversary of diplomatic relations, the Estonian Post put into circulation, on June 17, 2022, a stamp simply representing the flags of the two countries, as well as the mention in English "100 years strong". 2022 also marks the centenary of the adoption of the blue, black and white flag as the national flag of Estonia.
This stamp (€1.90, print run: 20,000), designed by Indrek Ilves and printed in a sheetlet of 10 stamps, was used on this cover sent on June 30, 2022 from the "Finest Postkontor" post office in Tallinn. Thank you very much Simone!
Today, Estonia and the United States stand united in defense of democratic values and the global order, and enjoy excellent relations as close allies in NATO.
It should be noted that the Post of Latvia also issued this year a stamp dedicated to the 100th anniversary of diplomatic relations with the United States. No similar stamp on the Lithuanian side ...
