Vu de France en tout cas, l'acteur et humoriste américain Bob Hope (1903-2003) est beaucoup plus connu que Anna Julia Cooper (1858-1964), pourtant une des personnalités noires les plus importantes du monde intellectuel dans l'histoire des États-Unis...
Ces 2 personnalités, qui ont tous les deux vécus au moins 100 ans, figurent sur timbre sur la jolie enveloppe ci-dessous postée le 15 juin 2009 d'Etowah (Caroline du nord) avec passage au centre de tri de la ville proche d'Asheville.

Seen from France, the American actor and comedian Bob Hope (1903-2003) is much better known as Anna Julia Cooper (1858-1964), however one of the most important black scholar personnality in the history of United States...
These two personnalities, both of which have lived at least 100 years, are depicted on stamps on the nice cover below mailed on June 15th 2009 from Etowah (North Carolina) with passing to the nearby sorting center of the city of Asheville.

Le timbre "Bob Hope" a été émis en avant-première le 29 mai 2009 à bord du porte-avions USS Midway à quai à San Diego (Californie), en référence à ses 2 visites (en 1972 et 1987) lors desquelles il était venu remonter le moral des troupes !
Né en Angleterre, Bob Hope se fera connaître des américains comme chanteur et danseur de claquettes dans les années 20. Il débutera ensuite à Broadway et enregistre ses 1ers succès au cinéma dans les années 30-40. Il tournera dans plus de 75 films et sera l'acteur le plus populaires des États-Unis. Bob Hope apparaîtra régulièrement à la télévision pour faire rire son public, y compris lors de ses nombreuses présentations de la cérémonie des Oscars.
Le timbre consacré à Anna Julia Cooper, émis le 11 juin 2009, fait partie de la célèbre série de l'USPS intitulée "Black Heritage" rendant hommage à des personnalités de la communauté afro-américaine.
Anna Julia Cooper fut une enseignante, érudite, activiste féminine qui défendit la cause de la communauté noire de la fin de l'esclavage jusqu'au début de mouvement pour les droits civiques.
The "Bob Hope" stamp was issued in preview sale on May 29th 2009 aboard the "USS Midway" aircraft carrier docked in San Diego (California), referring to his two visits (1972 and 1987) during which he was boosting military morale !
Born in England, Bob Hope was firstly known by the American as a singer and tap dancer in the 20's. He began at Broadway and then recorded his 1st film success in the years between 1930 and 140. He made over 75 films and was the most popular actor in the United States. Bob Hope appear regularly on television to make his audience laugh, including as host (18 times !) of the Academy Awards ceremony.
The stamp devoted to Anna Julia Cooper, issued on June 11th 2009, is part of the famous USPS series entitled "Black Heritage" paying tribute to important personnalities of the African-American community in US history.
Anna Julia Cooper was an educator, scholar, feminist and activist who defended the cause of the black community from the end of slavery to the beginning of the civil rights movement.

Les 2 oblitérations "1er jour", reproduisant des caricatures de l'humoriste, sont très impressionnantes, en particulier la 1ère en couleur !
The two FDC cancellations, reproducing some caricatures of the comedian, are very impressive, the first colored one particularly !
