La poste roumaine a émis le 21 mars 2009 un bloc-feuillet de 2 timbres dans le cadre de la campagne philatélique internationale pour la protection des régions polaires et des glaciers ("Protejaţi regiunile polare şi gheţarii" en roumain), initiée par la Finlande et le Chili.
Ce joli bloc figure sur la lettre ci-dessous postée le 11 juillet 2009 de la ville roumaine de Târgu Mureş en Transylvanie.

Mihai Vamasescu, le concepteur du bloc, a choisi de représenter un paysage polaire en Antarctique mettant en scène un manchot empereur et des manchots Adélie.
The Post of Romania has issued on March 21th 2009, a souvenir sheet of two stamps as part of the international stamp campaign for the protection of the polar regions and glaciers ("Protejaţi regiunile polare şi gheţarii" in Romanian), initiated by Finland and Chile.
This nice sheet is included on the cover below mailed on July 11, 2009 from the Romanian city of Târgu Mureş in Transylvania.

Mihai Vamasescu, the designer of the sheet, has chosen to depict an Antarctic polar landscape featuring an Emperor Penguin and some Adelie Penguins.
Le timbre de gauche montre un oeil fermé humain avec une énorme larme, celui de droite montre une évocation intéressante du continent antarctique semblant transpirer sous les effets du réchauffement climatique... Ce timbre mentionne également que la Roumanie fait partie de la cinquantaine de pays ayant signé (en 1971) le traité sur l'Antarctique. Les 2 timbres évoquent également l'année polaire internationale 2007-2009.
L'emblème de cette campagne, un cristal de glace stylisé, figure bien sur les 2 timbres ainsi que dans la marge centrale du bloc-feuillet (à l'envers).
A noter que ce bloc existe également dans une version limitée à 1000 exemplaires (avec numérotation en rouge de 1 à 1000), imprimée sur papier argenté et avec un hologramme.
23500 autres blocs ont été émis sur papier normal et numéroté en noir de 1001 à 24500. C'est le cas du bloc figurant sur la lettre ci-dessus, portant le n°1435.
The left stamp is depicting a closed human eye with a huge tear, the right one showing an interesting evocation of the Antarctic continent that seems to sweat under the effects of global warming... This stamp also indicates that Romania is part of the fifty countries having signed (in 1971) the Antarctic Treaty.
These two stamps also evoke the International Polar Year 2007-2009.
The insignia of this campaign, an stylized ice crystal, is well included on the two stamps and also in the central margin of the souvenir sheet (reverse).
It's worth noting that this sheet was also issued in a limited version of only 1,000 copies (numbered in red from 1 to 1,000), printed on silver foiling with an hologram design.
23,500 other sheets have been printed on normal paper and numbered in black from 1,001 to 24,500. This is the case of the sheet on the letter above, bearing the number 1,435.
