Lettre parfumée de Thaïlande !

Fragrant cover from Thailand !

I present you today a nice letter sent from Thailand on March 17, 2551 !
In 1912, King Rama VI established the Buddhist era whose beginning was set for April 1, 543 BC, the year of the passing of Buddha in Nirvana. So according to the Thai calendar, 2008 corresponds to the year 2551...
The small definitive blue stamp (1 Baht) represents current King Bhumibol (Rama IX) in military uniform in the 1970s (I didn't find the exact date of issue of this stamp ?). He is worshipped in Thailand and had a right to an impressive number of stamps in 2007 to commemorate his 80th birthday, making him the world's longest-serving current head of state.

The two 3 Baht identical stamps in the upper right, issued on March 17, 2008, are also definitive stamps whose theme is "Heart Lover" ! I like the simple design of this stamp with a heart between a man and a woman. I love also the special cancellation from Naphra Lan (which seems not to be a FDC one...) with this heart surrounded by 13 characters (why 13 ?).
Naphra Lan district is located in the capital, Bangkok, not far the Grand Palace and the famous temple of the Emerald Buddha.
Since 2002, Thai Post issues at the beginning of each year a stamp representing a rose, to promote the development of Philatelic activity (what is the link ?).
The 5 Baht stamp (issued on February 7 2008), as the previous ones, is a fragrant one and emits a pleasant smell of roses, amplified when rubbed :-)
This is the King Rama IV, which would have introduced this flower in the country after travelling in Europe.
This stamp was issued in sheet of 20 stamps and 4 colourful benchmarks in the left margin allow to locate the 2 stamps on this cover, in the upper left corner of the sheet...
These four benchmarks include the letters "TBSP", named after the printer : Thai British Security Printing.
What a good idea to have associated some "rose" and "heart" stamp on the same cover :-)
