Earth Hour à Singapour

Earth Hour in Singapore

Merci beaucoup :-)
On March 27, 2010, between 8:30pm and 9:30pm, took place on the planet the 4th edition of the "Earth Hour".
This global symbolic event, initiated by WWF, aims to promote energy conservation, fight against global warming by turning off lights and electrical appliances for one hour...
The main landmarks of the major capitals (Palace of Elysee, Eiffel Tower, Forbidden City, Sydney Opera House...) were switched off at this occasion.
Singapore also participated in this movement and the special postcard below has been issued. Terence has been kind enough to send it to me on March 27, 2010, the Earth Hour's Day. Thank you very much :-)

Singaporeans have probably participated in mass to this 2010 Earth Hour and may have broken the record of 2009 with over 1, 5 million members (one third of the population !) as written on the card above...
I don't know whether a similar survey was made in France ? I did not personally participate because it is my effort every day...
Terence has chosen two permanent rate 1st Local (currently 26c) stamps for his postage, the postal rate for sending a postcard to Zone 3 (that includes France) being 50c.
The right stamp is part of the 2008 series of 10 stamps and 1 souvenir sheet (issued on August 9) devoted to the National Day and photographs of the city-state in particular. Works by 5 great photographers, who all received the Singapore Cultural Medallion, have been reproduced on these stamps, including an impressive photograph by David Tay Poey Cher here (Clock Tower of the Victoria Theatre and Concert Hall surrounded with buildings).

The other stamp is part of a definitive set of 14 stamps, issued on June 6, 2007, devoted to fauna and flora (8 birds, 4 mammals and 2 flowers). This stamp depicts red frangipani flowers (Plumeria rubra), a tropical tree (native to South America), common in public gardens.
I show you above the other side of this postcard including the official logo of this Earth Hour (60 minutes), the WWF emblem and a slogan encouraging to apply this concept every hour ! You can find some other useful information on the official website also mentioned above. Finally, it's worth noting that Australia Post issued in 2009 the first (and only one ?) series of 3 stamps dedicated to this Earth Hour. Undoubtedly to recall that the first edition was held in Sydney in 2007...
