Très heureux de partager aujourd'hui avec vous ces 2 plis spéciaux en provenance de Slovaquie, les premiers (hors Russie) consacrés aux prochains jeux olympiques et paralympiques d'hiver à Sotchi. Merci beaucoup Robert pour ces lettres postées le 20 janvier 2014 de la ville slovaque de Trnava :-)
Le 15 janvier 2014, la poste slovaque a en effet émis 2 timbres (0,90€, tirage : 200000 chacun) évoquant respectivement les JO de Sotchi (du 7 au 23 février 2014) et les jeux paralympiques de Sotchi (du 7 au 16 mars 2014).
Very happy to share with you today these two special covers from Slovakia, the first ones (excluding Russia) devoted to the next Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games in Sochi. Thank you very much Robert for these letters mailed on January 20, 2014 from the Slovak town of Trnava :-)
On January 15, 2014, the Slovak Post indeed issued two stamps (€ 0.90, print run : 200,000 each) referring respectively to the Sochi Olympics (from 7 to 23 February 2014) and the Sochi Paralympics (from 7 to 16 March 2014).
La délégation slovaque sera composée de 63 athlètes à Sotchi, engagés dans 9 sports (ski alpin, biathlon, bobsleigh, ski de fond, patinage artistique, ski acrobatique, hockey sur glace, luge et short track).
Lors de l'édition précédente de ces jeux d'hiver en 2010 à Vancouver, la Slovaquie avait remporté 3 médailles (dont sa première médaille d'or depuis l'indépendance grâce à Anastasiya Kuzmina) en biathlon.
Le concepteur de ce timbre ci-dessus, Igor Piačka, a sans doute voulu évoquer ces 3 médailles en biathlon avec ces 3 athlètes de front arborant les couleurs (blanc, bleu, rouge) du drapeau national...
A noter que certaines administrations postales (France, Suisse, Italie...) qui émettaient des timbres consacrés à ces jeux d'hiver dans le passé, ne le feront pas cette année... Est-ce une forme de boycott philatélique ?

At the previous edition of these Winter Games in Vancouver in 2010, Slovakia won 3 medals (including its first gold medal since independence thanks to Anastasiya Kuzmina) in biathlon.
The designer of that stamp above, Igor Piačka, probably wanted to pay tribute to these three medals in biathlon with these 3 athletes side by side wearing the colors (white, blue, red) of the national flag...
To note that some postal administrations (France, Switzerland, Italy...) that issued stamps devoted to the winter games in the past, will not do it this year... Is this a form of philatelic boycott ?
Sauf erreur de ma part, c'est la 1ère fois que la poste slovaque émet un timbre consacré à des jeux paralympiques d'hiver (elle l'a déjà fait dans le passé pour des jeux paralympiques d'été).
Le concepteur de ce timbre ci-dessus, Karol Felix, a adopté le même principe que celui émis pour les jeux olympiques d'hiver plus haut : il représente une épreuve de ski alpin masculin pour les malvoyants, avec le guide et l'athlète juste derrière.
La Slovaquie avait en effet remporté 11 médailles (6 or, 2 argent, 3 bronze) lors des jeux paralympiques de Vancouver en 2010, toutes remportées dans des épreuves de ski alpin pour malvoyants. Henrieta Farkašová et Jakub Krako avaient respectivement remporté 3 médailles d'or chacun.
5 disciplines sportives sont au programme de ces jeux paralympiques : biathlon, ski de fond, ski alpin, curling en fauteuil et hockey sur luge.
If I'm not wrong, it is the first time that the Slovak Post is issuing a stamp dedicated to the Paralympic Winter Games (it was the case in the past for Summer Paralympics).
The designer of that stamp above, Karol Felix, adopted the same principle as for the one issued for the Winter Olympics : it features a men's alpine skiing event for the visually impaired, with the guide and the athlete just behind.
Slovakia had indeed won 11 medals (6 gold, 2 silver, 3 bronze) at the Paralympic Games in Vancouver in 2010, all won in alpine skiing for visually impaired. Henrieta Farkašová and Jakub Krako had respectively won 3 gold medals each.
Five sports are on the program of the Paralympic Games : biathlon, cross country skiing, alpine skiing, wheelchair curling and sledge hockey.
