Le 25 janvier 2020, l'année du cochon de terre a laissé la place à l'année du rat de métal d'après le calendrier lunaire chinois, et le début d'un nouveau cycle astrologique de 12 ans.
Comme de coutume, la poste coréenne a mis en circulation, le 2 décembre 2019, une série de 2 timbres (380 won chacun) consacrée aux vœux de Nouvel An à travers une évocation de cette année du rat à venir.
Ces 2 timbres (tirage : 672000, conception : Ryu, Ji-hyeong) ont été imprimés par Cartor Security Printing (France) en feuille de 16 timbres (8 de chaque) ainsi que dans un bloc-feuillet composé de 2 paires de timbres.

As usual, the Korean Post has put into circulation, on December 2, 2019, a series of 2 stamps (380 won each) dedicated to New Year's Greetings through an evocation of this Year of the Rat.

Comme les 3 années précédentes (année du coq, année du chien, année du cochon), ces 2 timbres sont très spectaculaires avec 2 représentations de rats différentes (rat blanc tenant une baie rouge à l'intérieur d'un cœur, 2 rats dorés tentant d'attraper une lumière), incluant des parties argentées en relief ou holographiques, et recouvertes d'un vernis spécial.

As in the previous 3 years (year of the rooster, year of the dog, year of the pig), these two stamps are very spectacular with two different representations of rats (white rat holding a red berry inside a heart, 2 golden rats trying to catch a light), including embossed or holographic silver parts, and covered with a special varnish.

En Corée du Sud, le rat est perçu comme un symbole de fertilité, d'abondance et de prospérité et cette année du rat est donc considérée comme une année pleine d'espoir et d'opportunité.
Bien que les gens n'aimaient généralement pas ce petit animal agile parce qu'il volait des grains dans les fermes, ils reconnaissaient toujours la diligence et la vitalité d'un rat comme en témoignent de nombreux contes populaires coréens.

In South Korea, the rat is seen as a symbol of fertility, abundance and prosperity and this year of the rat is therefore considered to be a year full of hope and opportunity.
Though people usually disliked this small and agile animal because it stole grains in farms, they still acknowledged the diligence and vitality of a rat as evidenced in many Korean folk tales.
