Depuis l'indépendance du pays en 1957, le sultan de Kedah (le 28ème), qui a succédé à son père en 1958, est le 1er à célébrer 50 ans de règne le 15 juillet 2008, date d'émission des 3 timbres à son honneur figurant sur le joli FDC ci-dessous. Merci beaucoup Kkkhor :-)
La poste malaisienne émet régulièrement des timbres commémoratifs consacrés aux Sultans régnant sur les différents états composant la fédération de Malaisie.

Since independence of Malaysia in 1957, the Sultan of Kedah (the 28th), who succeeded his father in 1958, is the first one to celebrate 50 years of reign on July 15, 2008, the date of issue of the 3 stamps included on the nice FDC below. Thank you very much Kkkhor :-)
The Post of Malaysia regularly issues commemorative stamps devoted to the Sultans ruling on the different states making up the federation of Malaysia.
Le sultan Abdul Halim Mu'adzam Shah, né en 1927, fut élu roi de Malaisie (5ème Yang di-Pertuan Agong) de 1970 à 1975 et pourrait rentrer dans l'histoire du pays s'il était réélu une 2ème fois en 2011...Pendant ses 50 ans de règne, il a accompagné le développement de cet état rural situé dans le nord-ouest de la péninsule malaise, à la frontière thaïlandaise. Le Kedah est considéré comme la réserve de riz du pays, avec de nombreux paysages de rizières, comme sur le timbre à 30 sen sur lequel figure un portrait du sultan âgé de 32 ans. Ce timbre illustre une vue de la capitale, Alor Setar, datant des années 1950 et l'élégante mosquée Masjid Zahir construite en 1912.
L'ancien bureau du secrétaire d'état du gouvernement de Kedah et le monument de la fontaine Jalan Telok Wanjah, construite alors pour fêter les 25 ans de règne du sultan, figurent sur le timbre à 50 sen.
Enfin, le timbre à 1 RM montre en illustration de fond une vue actuelle de la ville d'Alor Setar, avec entre autres la tour de communication de 165 mètres de haut et la récente mosquée Masjid Al-Bukhary. Un portrait actuel du sultan en tenue d'apparat figure sur ce timbre.
The Sultan Abdul Halim Mu'adzam Shah, born in 1927, was elected king of Malaysia (5th Yang di-Pertuan Agong) from 1970 to 1975 and could enter in the country's history if he is re-elected a second time in 2011...
During his 50-year reign, he accompanied the development of this rural State located in north-west of the Malay peninsula, at the Thai border. Kedah is considered as the reserve of rice in the country, with many landscapes of rice fields, as shown on the 30 sen stamp on which is included a portrait of the Sultan (age 32). The stamp shows a view of the capital, Alor Setar, dating from the years 1950's and the elegant Masjid Zahir mosque built in 1912.
The old office of the State Secretary of the Kedah government and the monument of the Jalan Telok Wanjah fountain, then built to celebrate the 25-year reign of Sultan appear on the 50 sen stamp.
Finally, the 1 RM stamp's illustration on background shows a current view of Alor Setar, with among others the 165 meters high communication tower and the recent Masjid Al-Bukhary mosque. A current portrait of the sultan wearing a ceremonial dress appears on this stamp.
