Preserve the Polar Regions and Glaciers - Part IV

Dans le cadre du "Salon Philatélique de Printemps" à Mâcon le week-end dernier avait lieu une grande manifestation polaire internationale, "Escales Polaires".
A cette occasion, des conférences, plusieurs scénographies (faune et flore polaire, arctique, antarctique...) et bien sûr une riche exposition de philatélie polaire étaient proposées au public.
La poste française en a profité pour émettre le 28 mars 2009 un bloc-feuillet de 2 timbres dans le cadre de la campagne internationale pour la protections des régions polaires et des glaciers.
Ce joli bloc (impression mixte offset/taille-douce) figure sur l'enveloppe ci-dessous, postée ce même jour depuis le Salon.
J'évoquerai dans un autre message le timbre et la vignette LISA également émis en avant-première pendant ce week-end :-)
As part of the "Salon Philatélique de Printemps" held in Mâcon last weekend took place a major International Polar Exhibition, called "Escales polaires" ("Polar Calls").
At this occasion, many conferences, scenographies (Polar fauna and flora, Arctic, Antarctic...) and of course a rich polar Stamp Exhibition were offered to the public.
The French Post Office took the opportunity to issue on 28th of March 2009, a souvenir sheet of two stamps as part of the international campaign for the protection of the polar regions and glaciers.
This nice sheet (offset/intaglio mixed printing) is included on the cover below, mailed the same day from this Stamp Show.
I'll speak about the others stamp and ATM stamp below, also issued in preview sale during this weekend, in a next post :-)

Curieusement, la poste française ne fait référence qu'à la protection des pôles dans les marges de ce bloc. On connaît pourtant en France l'importance des glaciers, en particulier dans le massif des Alpes...
Comme les autres administrations postales ayant émis des timbres dans le cadre de cette campagne, le logo représentant un cristal de glace stylisé est inclus dans la marge en bas à droite, même s'il n'est pas des plus visibles...
Le timbre à 0,56€ (tarif intérieur lettre jusqu'à 20g) représente un paysage polaire et celui à 0,85€ (tarif international hors UE, lettre jusqu'à 20g) un couple de manchots empereurs avec leurs petits.
Cette espèce de manchot est très sensible aux variations de la banquise qui influent sur sa reproduction et sa nourriture. Le réchauffement climatique et donc la fonte des glaces pourraient ainsi entrainer la quasi disparition de cet oiseau d'ici 2100...
Les autres oiseaux présents dans les marges du bloc ci-dessus sont des manchots adélie, la 2ème espèce de manchot vivant en Antarctique.
Les 5 oblitérations ci-dessus sont celles émises dans le cadre de l'exposition "Escales Polaires", avec un portrait de Jules Dumont d'Urville (1790-1842), explorateur français qui mena de nombreuses expéditions polaires à bord de son bateau, l'Astrolabe. Une base scientifique française en Terre Adélie porte son nom.
Curiously, the French Post refered only to the protection of the poles in the margins of this sheet. Yet we know in France the importance of glaciers, especially in the Alps mountains...
As the other postal administrations having issued stamps as part of this campaign, the logo depicting a stylized ice crystal is included in the lower right margin, even if it is not really in evidence...
The €0.56 stamp (domestic postal rate, letter up to 20g) depicts a polar landscape and the €0.85 stamp (international rate except EU, letter up to 20g) a pair of Emperor Penguins with their young.
This species of penguin is very sensitive to ice field changes that affect its reproduction and feeding. Global warming and thus melting of ice could bring almost an extinction of this bird by 2100...
The other birds in the margins of the sheet above are Adélie Penguins, the 2nd species of penguins living in Antarctica.
The five cancellations above are those issued in conjunction with the "Escales Polaires" Exhibition with a portrait of Jules Dumont d'Urville (1790-1842), a French explorer who led many polar expeditions aboard his boat, L'Astrolabe. A French scientific base in Terre Adélie was named after him.

Ci-dessus la gravure des 2 timbres du bloc, proposée pendant ce Salon par la poste française, avec les 2 timbres originaux collés à gauche et à droite.
Ce document me permet de vous montrer l'oblitération "1er jour" émise spécifiquement pour ce bloc-feuillet, représentant un ours polaire avec ses 2 oursons.
A noter que le visuel du timbre représentant un paysage polaire est le même que le fond du bloc-feuillet émis par Andorre (poste française) dans le cadre de cette même campagne internationale...
