Monuments nationaux à Singapour

National Monuments in Singapore

At the occasion of the National Day on August 9, the Singapore Post is issuing each year a special series of stamps devoted to historical, cultural or architectural heritage of the country.
Oddly, this series has been issued this year five days earlier, on August 4, 2010, Singapore celebrating the 45th anniversary of its independence.
Leo Teck Chong, the designer, has chosen to feature six buildings listed as national monuments on this beautiful series included on the official FDC below.
Thank you very much Terence :-)

To note that a souvenir sheet was also issued, consisting of a stamp depicting details of these same six monuments.
The FDC cancellation refers to the National Day Parade (NDP) and its 2010 slogan : "Live our dreams, Fly our flag".

Bowyer Block, and its clock tower, now houses the Singapore General Hospital Museum. This is the only part of the General Hospital opened in 1926, which still exists today.
The College of Medicine Building, opened in 1926, is now occupied by the Ministry of Health.
Command House was built around 1930 to serve as the official residence of the General Officer commanding Malaya and Singapore and then of the Speaker of Parliament from 1971 after the withdrawal of British troops. Since 2007, it houses a campus of the bank UBS.
The Chinese High School Clock Tower (called Hwa Chong Institution today) is a neoclassical style building built in 1925. It was, at this time, the first Chinese secondary school to be built in Southeast Asia.
The Former Raffles College, opened in 1929, has housed many higher education institutions including the University of Singapore's Faculty of Law since 2005.
Tan Teck Guan Building, built in 1911, was with the College of Medicine, one of the first medical school in Singapore.

Terence was kind enough to also send me different cards issued concerning the National Day Parade and its slogan mentioned higher up.
The official NDP's logo, which was featured on the FDC postmark, is included several times on the card above, designed by FARM, a local design and Art company.

Another white version of this same card above. The NDP's logo is based on the five stars and crescent appearing on the red and white flag of Singapore.

The other card above, completely different, was designed by Shaun Soh.

The other side of these cards (how many were issued ?) is the same. An example above with a FDC cancellation different from the one on the FDC above. The number 49 seems to indicate that this postmark has been applied in another post office (the number 1 (for Central Post Office ?) was included on the FDC...).

Bonjour Eric,
A total of 10 cards were issued on NDP2010 theme. As these are free cards, they go out of shelf very fast, hence difficult to get a complete 10. Postmark #1 is from Philatelic Bureau. Postmarks #2 - 60+ are from different post office branches, in alphabetical order.
