"40 Years of Universiti Teknologi Brunei" stamp set on FDC from Brunei Darussalam

On June 30, 2026, the postal administration of the Sultanate of Brunei Darussalam released a set of five stamps marking the 40th anniversary of the founding of the Universiti Teknologi Brunei (UTB), a public technological university located in the capital, Bandar Seri Begawan.
Established in 1986 as the Institut Teknologi Brunei (ITB) and subsequently granted university status on March 1, 2016, UTB specializes in several key fields of study, including engineering, business, computing, applied sciences, mathematics, and design.
These five stamps (BND 0.20 each) appear on the official First Day Cover below. Many thanks, Andy!
It is worth noting that a miniature sheet (BND 40) themed "UTB Pulse" was also issued on the same day.
The first stamp commemorates the honorary doctorate in engineering awarded to the current Sultan of Brunei Darussalam, Hassanal Bolkiah. As Chancellor of UTB, the Sultan accepted the title on September 30, 2017, in recognition of his pivotal role in national development and the promotion of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.

The second stamp commemorates the honorary doctorate in technological innovation awarded to Crown Prince Al-Muhtadee Billah. On September 14, 2023, the Sultan conferred this title upon the Crown Prince—who is also the Pro-Chancellor of UTB—in recognition of his leadership regarding the CIPTA awards and his contributions to innovation and technology.
The next stamp highlights the Crown Prince's CIPTA award. Established in 2005, the CIPTA (Creative, Innovative Product and Technological Advancement) award represents Brunei Darussalam's premier competition for invention, innovation, and technology.
This award aims to foster and stimulate a culture of innovation, research, and technical creativity within the fields of science, engineering, and technology.
The fourth stamp depicts the original ITB campus on Jalan Muara, where the institution was founded on January 16, 1986, as *Institut Teknologi Brunei*, initially welcoming 59 students.
The final stamp shows the present-day UTB campus at Tungku Highway, where the University moved in 1998 and where, in 2016, ITB was renamed *Universiti Teknologi Brunei* following its elevation to university status in 2008.
