J'avais publié récemment une lettre en provenance de la ville crétoise de Chania, affranchie avec un timbre émis par la République monastique du Mont Athos ("Agion Oros").
Avec cette nouvelle lettre ci-dessous, postée également de Chania, Spyros (merci beaucoup !) m'apporte la preuve définitive que ces timbres peuvent être utilisés sur tout le territoire grec et pas seulement dans la péninsule du Mont Athos !
I've recently published on this blog a letter from the Cretan city of Chania, franked with a stamp issued by the self-governed monastic state of Mount Athos ("Agion Oros").
With this new letter below, also mailed from Chania, Spyros (thank you very much !) brings me the definitive proof that these stamps can really be used throughout the Greek territory and not only in the peninsula of Mount Athos !

Ce timbre (3€), imprimé en Grèce par Giesecke & Devrient Matsoukis SA, fait partie de la 4ème série émise depuis 2008 (le 22 août exactement) par le Mont Athos, consacrée à différents monastères de cette péninsule située sur la côte nord-est de la Grèce, le saint monastère de Philotheou ici.
Ce monastère orthodoxe (60 moines actuellement), fondé à la fin du 10ème siècle par Saint Philotée, est le 12ème dans la hiérarchie des 20 monastères disséminés sur le Mont Athos.
Dédié à l'Annonciation, ce monastère abrite une librairie avec de nombreux manuscrits anciens précieux ainsi qu'une relique de Saint Jean Chrysostome (main droite) et un morceau de la Sainte Croix sur laquelle Jésus-Christ aurait été crucifié...
This stamp (€ 3.00), printed in Greece by Giesecke & Devrient Matsoukis SA, is part of the fourth series issued since 2008 (on August 22 to be exact) by the Mount Athos, dedicated to different monasteries of this peninsula located on the northeastern Greek coast, the Holy Monastery of Philotheou here.
This Orthodox Monastery (60 monks currently), founded at the end of the 10th century by the Blessed Philotheus, ranks 12th in the hierarchy of the 20 monasteries of Mount Athos.
Dedicated to the Annunciation, this monastery houses a library with many valuable old manuscripts and a relic of St. John Chrysostom (his right hand) and a piece of the Holy Cross, believed to be from the cross upon which the Christ was crucified...
