La bibliothèque Ayacucho a été créée à Caracas en 1974, à l'initiative du gouvernement vénézuélien de l'époque, présidé par Carlos Andrés Pérez.
La mission de cette institution culturelle, rattachée aujourd'hui au ministère du pouvoir populaire pour la culture (!), était alors de rééditer les grands textes fondateurs de la littérature et des sciences sociales latino-américaines. Cette bibliothèque fut créée et dirigée par l'écrivain et critique uruguayen Angel Rama (qui vivait alors en exil au Venezuela) et par le poète et homme politique vénézuélien José Ramón Medina.
Cette bibliothèque porte le nom de la ville péruvienne d'Ayacucho où eut lieu en 1824 une bataille décisive contre les espagnols qui allait conduire aux indépendances des pays latino-américains.
The Ayacucho Library was founded in Caracas in 1974, at the initiative of the Venezuelan government at the time, leaded by president Carlos Andrés Pérez.
The mission of this cultural institution, part today of the Ministry of Popular Power for Culture (!), was then to reissue the major founding texts of literature and social sciences in Latin America. This library was created and directed by Uruguayan writer and critic Angel Rama (who was then living in exile in Venezuela) and Venezuelan poet and politician José Ramón Medina.
This library was named after the Peruvian city of Ayacucho where took place in 1824 a decisive battle against the Spanish, prior to the full independence of Latin American countries.
Le 9 décembre 2009, l'administration postale du Vénézuela (Ipostel) a émis un feuillet de 10 timbres (valeurs de 0,30 à 4,00 bolivars) consacré au 35ème anniversaire de cette bibliothèque.
Ces 10 timbres sont tous identiques (carte de l'Amérique du sud) mais avec des couleurs de fond différentes.
Trois timbres de ce feuillet figurent sur la lettre ci-dessus envoyée en recommandé depuis la ville d'El Morro. Merci beaucoup Jesus :-)
A noter les 2 cachets rectangulaires avec 2 dates différentes (24 juin 2012 et 26 juillet 2012) !
Cette lettre a ensuite mis près de 3 mois avant d'arriver dans ma boîte aux lettres...
Pendant ces 35 années, la bibliothèque Ayacucho a réuni une des collections d'ouvrages les plus importantes d'Amérique latine incluant les grands textes du continent, y compris consacrés à la littérature orale pré-hispanique. S'apparentant à une bibliothèque de la Pléiade latino-américaine, on y trouve également plusieurs recueils de textes illustrant la pensée politique et sociale du continent sud-américain, consacrés en particulier à Simón Bolívar, le héros national vénézuélien.
On December 9, 2009, the postal administration of Venezuela (Ipostel) has issued a sheet of 10 stamps (values from 0.30 to 4.00 Bolivars) dedicated to the 35th anniversary of this library.
These 10 stamps are all featuring the same design (map of South America) but with different background colors.
Three stamps of this sheet appear on the cover above sent by registered mail from the city of El Morro. Thank you very much Jesus :-)

This letter then set about 3 months before arriving in my mailbox...
During these 35 years, the Ayacucho Library has assembled a collection of the most important books in Latin America with the great texts of the continent, including oral literature devoted to pre-Hispanic times. Akin to a Latin American Pléiade library, there are also several collections of texts illustrating the social and political thought in South America, in particular devoted to Simon Bolivar, the Venezuelan national hero.
