Du 29 avril au 26 août 2014, le centre de la découverte du patrimoine de Hong Kong organise une exposition intitulée "Un voyage à travers l'histoire postale de Hong Kong - Un aperçu de l'histoire postale de Hong Kong à travers le bâtiment de l'ancien bureau de poste général (1911-1976)".
A cette occasion, la poste de Hong Kong a émis le 29 avril 2014, un impressionnant bloc-feuillet, composé d'un timbre (20$), conçu par Arde Lam et imprimé en France par Cartor Security Printing.
J'ai eu la chance de recevoir ce bloc sur le magnifique pli Premier Jour ci-dessous. Merci beaucoup Kun :-)
Le timbre représente le bâtiment qui a abrité cet ancien bureau de poste général entre 1911 et 1976, la partie supérieure arrondie rappelant les arches de la façade de l'édifice.
A noter la devise biblique en anglais (pouvant être traduite par "Les bonnes nouvelles d'un pays lointain sont comme de l'eau fraîche pour une personne assoiffée") dans la marge en haut à gauche sur ce bloc (cette devise était inscrite sur un mur de ce bureau de poste).
From 29 April to 26 August 2014, the Hong Kong Heritage Discovery Centre organizes an exhibition entitled "A Journey Through Hong Kong's Postal History - A Glimpse of Hong Kong's Postal History Through the Old General Post Office Building (1911 – 1976)".
On this occasion, the Hong Kong Post has issued on April 29, 2014 , an impressive souvenir sheet consisting of one stamp ($ 20), designed by Arde Lam and printed in France by Cartor Security Printing.
I was very lucky to receive this sheet on the beautiful first day cover below. Thank you very much Kun :-)
The stamp shows the building that housed the former General Post Office between 1911 and 1976, the upper rounded part recalling the arches of the facade of the building.
To note the biblical motto ("As cold water to a thirsty soul, so is good news from a far country") in the margin at the top left on this sheet (this motto was inscribed on a wall of this post office).
La construction de ce bureau de poste, surnommé "la vieille dame de la rue Pedder", fut terminée en 1911. L'édifice, polychrome, est caractéristique du style victorien (ou Renaissance anglais) de l'époque avec des parties en granite et en briques rouge de Canton.
Victime de l'accroissement constant du trafic postal lié à l'afflux d'immigrants, ce bureau de poste commença à rencontrer des problème de congestion dans les années 1950, d'où la construction d'un autre bureau à Kowloon en 1967 pour traiter le courrier intérieur.
Un nouveau bureau de poste général, plus opérationnel et adapté aux contraintes modernes, fut construit en 1976 à Connaught Place.
Le vieil édifice fut alors détruit en novembre 1976 et laissa la place à une ligne de chemin de fer pour le transport en commun.
Les quatre piliers de la porte principale de l'immeuble ont été conservés et installés dans le "Kadoorie Farm and Botanic Garden".
The construction of this post office, nicknamed "the Old Lady of Pedder Street", was completed in 1911. The polychrome building is characteristic of Victorian (or English Renaissance) style of the time with some parts made of granite and others made of Canton red bricks.
Victim of the constant increase of postal traffic associated with the influx of immigrants, the post office began to encounter congestion problem in the 1950s, whence the construction of another post office in Kowloon in 1967 to treat domestic mail.
A new general post office, more operational and adapted to modern constraints, was built in 1976 in Connaught Place.
The old building was then destroyed in November 1976 for the construction of the Mass Transit Railway.
The four pillars of the main door of the building have been preserved and installed in the "Kadoorie Farm and Botanic Garden".
La marge centrale de ce bloc évoque différentes opérations postales (tri, oblitérations de courriers, transport de sacs postaux vers le port, accueil du public) qui furent effectuées dans cet ancien bureau de poste général.
Kun a utilisé un 2ème timbre (2$) sur l'autre face de cette lettre ci-dessus, faisant partie d'une série courante composée de 16 timbres, émise le 31 décembre 2006, consacrée à différents oiseaux, une aigrette garzette (Egretta garzetta) ici.
A noter à droite cette autre oblitération spéciale, représentant cet ancien bureau de poste (disponible du 29 avril au 28 juillet 2014 dans les 38 bureaux philatéliques de Hong Kong et du 30 avril au 26 août 2014 sur les lieux de cette exposition).
The central margin of this souvenir sheet features different postal operations (sorting, cancellation of mails, transport of mail bags to the port, reception of the public) that were made in this former General Post Office.
Kun used a second stamp ($ 2) on the other side of this letter above, being part of a definitive series, consisting of 16 stamps, issued on December 31, 2006, devoted to different bird species, a little egret (Egretta garzetta) here.
To note on the right this other special cancellation, depicting this former post office (available from 29 April to 28 July 2014 in the 38 philatelic offices of Hong Kong and from 30 April to 26 August 2014 at this exhibition venue at the Hong Kong Heritage Discovery Centre).
