Year of the Snake in France - FDC
As it is the case since the year of the Rooster in 2005, the French Post has once again issued, in general sale on January 7th 2013, a souvenir sheet of five identical stamps dedicated to the Chinese Lunar New Year, the Year of (water) Snake.
I'm not really a fan of this topic and I hope that this stamp series will end with the Year of the Monkey in 2017 after a complete cycle of 12 years...
It is one of the stamps of this souvenir sheet that appears on the two First Day Covers above and below, with postmarks of January 4, 2013 in Paris. Thank you very much Roland and Joël :-)
To note that the preview sale of this stamp took place this year at the "Carré d'Encre" but also in two other rather unusual places in Paris : the "Maison des Associations de Solidarité" and the Museum of Asian Art Guimet.
This new stamp was designed by Zhongyao Li (a Chinese artist living in France) who has also designed the FDC cancellation, with Aurélie Baras.
Zhongyao Li had already created the Chinese New Year's stamp in 2006 (Year of the Dog) and those issued between 2009 and 2012.
As a reminder, this New Year of the Snake will start on February 10, 2013 marking, throughout Asia, a holiday period and the beginning of the Spring festival.
The snake, 6th animal in the Chinese zodiac, is often a symbol of mystery and secrecy. People born under that sign are at the same time discrete, charming, seductive and introverted...
Here are above and below the two sides of the French Post's Invitation about the First Day of Issue of this souvenir sheet (print run : 1.3 million).

A "Kamil Lhoták" Exhibition at the Postal Museum in Prague
The Czech Post had already issued in its "Art" series of November 7th 2012, a stamp dedicated to the Czech painter, graphic designer and illustrator Kamil Lhoták (1912-1990) on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of his birth.
I'd already mentioned this stamp (reproduction of his painting "A long-haired girl", 1951), as well as the other two stamps in this series, in a post published on this blog.
To celebrate this anniversary, an exhibition is also organized at the Postal Museum in Prague, from November 28, 2012 to February 3, 2013.
The postal stationery above was issued specifically for this exhibition entitled "Na kole, na motorce, ve vzduchu" ("On a bicycle, on a motorcycle, in the air") in reference to the many Lhoták's drawings depicting cyclists, motorcyclists or balloons.
His work "Balloon" (1972) reproduced to the left on this postal stationery already appeared on a stamp issued in 1973 in Czechoslovakia.
Thank you very much Pavel for this postal stationery as well as the card below on which was applied the special postmark (design : Kateřina Přidalová) issued on December 1, 2012 at the Postal Museum in Prague, including the signature of Kamil Lhoták :-)
That same special cancellation was applied on the nice card above as well as an inkmark of the Postal Museum in Prague (including a post horn).
Pavel has used two identical stamps, issued on March 5, 2008 to announce the International Philatelic Exhibition "Praga 2008" held in September 2008 in the Czech capital.
This stamp reproduces a mural in the Postal Museum in Prague by J. Navrátil (1798-1865) entitled "Bath Servant Zuzana Carrying the King Wenceslas IV Over the Vltava River".
This stamp, issued in sheets and in booklet with attached coupons devoted to this exhibition "Praga 2008" as it's the case above, also commemorated the 90th anniversary of the foundation of this Postal Museum, on December 18th 1918.
The other side of this card above shows a photograph (by Tomáš Vosolsobě) dating from the late 1970s, featuring the painter Kamil Lhoták in his workshop.

Série "JO de Londres" aux Philippines
"London Olympics" stamp set from the Philippines
For the fourth consecutive time, the Olympic team of the Philippines failed to win a single medal during the last Olympic Games in London...
Composed of 11 athletes (7 men, 4 women), the smallest delegation since 1996, the team of the Philippines was engaged in eight sports : athletics, archery, boxing, cycling, judo, shooting, swimming and weightlifting.
Since its first participation at the games of 1924, the Philippines Olympic team has won 9 medals (2 silver, 7 bronze) in only three sports : boxing, athletics and swimming...
These three sports are featured, with also shooting, on the set of four stamps (design : Jay Javier R. Cahilig) issued on July 27, 2012 by the Post of the Philippines.
I was lucky enough to receive this complete series on the beautiful cover above mailed on December 17, 2012 from the city of Cebu. Thank you very much Edna :-)
To note the presence of the logo of these London Olympics as well as the emblem of the Philippine Olympic Committee on each of these four stamps.
Edna has also used two other definitive stamps (7 Pesos each) issued in 2011 (Murex sp. shell) and on September 28, 2012 (Amihan).
This stamp, designed by Nemi R. Miranda Jr., is part of an interesting series devoted to folklore and legends of the Philippines. According to a Tagalog legend, Amihan is the first creature to inhabit the universe, a personification of the Northeast wind. She is often depicted as a beautiful, long-haired woman...

TAD spécial du 1er janvier 2013 à Paris, suite...
Some new special 01.01.2013 postmarks from Paris

Here are three new letters received with that same cancellation. Thank you to Joël, Joël and Roland :-)
The three stamps used are part of the booklet "Best Wishes" (print run : 4,000,000) issued on November 12, 2012. The 12 self-adhesive stamps (Permanent "Green Letter" rate, i.e. € 0.58 currently) of this booklet were designed by eight different artists to illustrate several ways used to present wishes (picture, calligramme, rebus, emoticons, pictograms...).
The stamps below have been respectively created by painter and illustrator Martin Jarrie, Sylvie Patte (who has laid out this booklet with Tanguy Besset) and graphic designer and illustrator Christelle Guénot.

Coupe Davis 2012 - TAD spécial tchèque
Davis Cup 2012 - a special Czech postmark
Merci beaucoup Bret :-)
2012 was definitely the year of Czech tennis since the country has managed the feat of winning both the Davis Cup for the men's team and the Fed Cup for the women's team, a prowess that had not been done since 22 years (by the US team at the time) !
The Czech Post has put into circulation, from 3 to 7 December 2012, two special postmarks, respectively in Prague and Brno, to celebrate these two historic Czech victories in Davis Cup and Fed Cup.
It is the special cancellation (design : Miloslav Bláha) devoted to the Davis Cup that was applied on the very interesting cover below mailed from Prague on December 3, 2012. Thank you very much Bret :-)
This cancellation shows the famous silver salad bowl, the trophy awarded to the winner of the Davis Cup every year and includes the mention of the final score : 3-2 against Spain.
Bret has franked this letter with two self-adhesive personalized stamps ("Vlastní známky"), issued on October 24th 2012, with the permanent "A" postal rate (domestic letter up to 50g, i.e. CZK 10 currently).
These two stamps are devoted to the Association of Czechoslovak Stamp Collectors ("Společnost sběratelů československých známek", SSČSZ) and the Union of Czech Philatelists ("Svaz českých filatelistů", SČF).
The stamp to the right (print run : 1,800) mentions in particular the 40th anniversary of the philatelic magazine "Zpravodaj" published 4 times a year by the SSČSZ and SČF. Four other stamps with this same design have been issued, with some different colors.
The other stamp (print run : 6,000) reproduces a Czechoslovak stamp (view of the Charles Bridge in Prague) in the middle as well as a Czech definitive stamp to the left ("Cathedral of Brno" issued on March 30, 1994) and a Slovak definitive stamp to the right ("Castle of Zvolen" issued on September 24, 1993).

Emission commune Qatar/Maroc - Faucon
Qatar-Morocco "Falcon" joint stamp issue
I've already mentioned, in a recent post on this blog, the stamp issued on October 9, 2012 by the Moroccan postal administration, dedicated to the falcon.
This stamp was actually a joint issue with Qatar, which explains the presence of the flags of the two countries in the background. It is the Qatar's version of this stamp (2.50 Riyals) that appears to the right on the cover below mailed on December 18th 2012 from Doha, the capital. Thank you very much Nilesh :-)
This theme of the falcon was chosen because it is a symbol of culture, tradition and ancestral sport in many Arab countries.
Nilesh has completed his postage with a stamp (0.50 Riyal), issued on October 14, 2008 to announce the organization of the 14th edition of the GCC Stamps Exhibition in Doha.
This exhibition is taking place each year since 1995 in one of the six member countries of the GCC ("Gulf Cooperation Council") : Saudi Arabia, Oman, Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar and United Arab Emirates.
This event is seen as an opportunity for participating countries to support artistic values related to postage stamp, to promote philately as a hobby and to increase the cooperation between the postal services of these countries.

Voeux 2013 du Président de la République !
As it was the case the previous years, I've recently received a special Greeting card sent in an envelope headed by the President of the French Republic.
The envelope is actually a postal stationery including a "Green Letter" Marianne definitive stamp used for a shipment up to 50g to France, Andorra and Monaco (currently € 0.97).
To note that this postal stationery has a larger size than the ones used in previous years and that the Marianne stamp has switched to 50g (20g the past year), probably a change desired by the new president François Hollande compared with his predecessor...
This letter above passed through the PPDC (Platform of Mail Preparation and Distribution) of Paris Villette (No. 25658A) on January 7th 2013.
The attached card shows a view of the gardens of the Elysee Palace in Paris (the official residence of the President of the French Republic since 1874) from the Golden Room ("Salon doré"), the office of the President of the Republic.
We guess also in the background, behind the trees, the silhouette of the Eiffel Tower...
The message of President Hollande above, shorter than Nicolas Sarkozy's one last year...

TAD spécial du 1er janvier 2013 à Paris
A special 01.01.2013 postmark from Paris
The logo of Philapostel was already included on the special postmark issued in Paris on January 1, 2012. I published at the time on this blog several covers with this cancellation.
As a reminder, Philapostel (which celebrated its 60th anniversary in 2012 with a special exhibition at the French Postal Museum in Paris in November 2012), the association of stamp collectors of La Poste and France Telecom, is one of most important philatelic associations in France.
On January 1, 2013 a new special postmark was put into circulation in Paris (only at the "Carré d'Encre" ?), including that same Philapostel's logo between the two dates of December 31 and January 1, as well as the mention "Bonne Année" ("Happy New Year").
It is this cancellation that appears on the nice cover above. Thank you very much Joël :-)
Joël has used the stamp (€ 0.89) devoted to French singer Edith Piaf, issued in general sale on June 18th 2012. I've already mentioned this stamp on this blog, a joint issue with the United States with a second stamp paying tribute to Miles Davis.

Journée de la Poste Arabe 2012 au Qatar
Arab Postal Day 2012 on stamps from Qatar
After covers received from Morocco, Tunisia, United Arab Emirates, Oman and Iraq posted on this blog, I was lucky to receive a new letter, from Qatar this time, franked with the stamp issued jointly in 2012 by several member countries of the Arab League, devoted to the Arab Postal Day.
Thank you very much Nilesh for this letter mailed on December 18, 2012 from Doha, the capital :-)
This stamp (1 Riyal), in three copies below, was issued on August 3, 2012, the day of celebration every year of that Arab Postal Day.
As a reminder, following a competition organized by the Arab Permanent Postal Commission (APPC), the illustration reproduced on this joint stamp (designed by Mohamed Nidham from Oman) shows a map of the 22 countries of the Arab League as well as a carrier pigeon and the emblem of the Arab League.
To note that only 11 countries (out of the 22 member countries of the Arab League!) have participated in this joint stamp issue (Morocco, Tunisia, United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Oman, Qatar, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Palestine and Sudan), but not all of them have respected the date of issue of August 3, 2012...
Finally, to note the presence on that stamp of the two years 2012 and 1433 respectively referring to the two Gregorian and Islamic calendars.

Histoire de l'audit en Chine - Plis Premier Jour
Audit's history in China - FDC
Since the dawn of time, governmental bodies wanted to put procedures in place to monitor the proper use of public funds, improve state governance, promote reforms and safe trade exchanges, fight against corruption...
The first process, approaching audits known today, date from the 21st century BC in China at the time of the Xia and Shang dynasties.
Several systems were then improved by different dynasties (Sikuai, Zaifu, Shangji, Bibu...).

On November 30, 2012, China Post has issued an interesting series of 4 stamps (1.20 yuan each) devoted to the history of auditing in the country. These four stamps (design : Wang Tao), issued in a same sheet of 16 stamps, appear on the two FDC above and below with cancellations from Shanghai. Thank you very much Jia Yi :-)
The two stamps above, entitled "Emergence of Audit" and "Ancient audit", feature some objects used during these ancient audits mentioned above.
The two other stamps in this series above, entitled "Red Audit" and "Contempory Audit", thus suggest audit procedures put in place during the 20th century in the People's Republic of China.
In 1933, the Chinese Soviet Republic created the Central Audit Committee. It was not until 1982 that the Constitution of the People's Republic of China was promulgated stipulating the adoption of an auditing system, followed by the creation of a National Audit Office in 1983 and an Audit Law in 1994.

Fauna & Flora on a 12.12.12 cover from Indonesia
Merci beaucoup Irene :-)
On November 5th 2012, the Indonesian Post has issued a lovely set of two stamps, entitled "Flora and Fauna", dedicated to a threatened species of marsupial and a characteristic plant of the fragile ecosystem of the mangrove.
These two stamps have been issued in a souvenir sheet (5000 Rp each) as well as in a same sheet (Rp 2,500 each). It is an upper band of that sheet that appears on the nice cover below mailed on 12.12.12 (!) from the city of Malang. Thank you very much Irene :-)

Butterfly on my first cover from Guyana !
Thank you very much Vishal for this letter, mailed on 12.12.12 (!) from the Berbice-Corentyne Region located in Eastern Guyana, along the border with neighboring Suriname :-)
The Co-operative Republic of Guyana (not to be confused with French Guiana), formerly British Guiana, is the only South American country whose official language is English.
The illustration to the left on this envelope shows the Kaieteur Falls (226 meters high), one of the most famous tourist sites of the country, situated on the river Potaro in the rainforest of the Kaieteur National Park.
Philatelic speaking, Guyana is (was ?) one of these countries, like some Caribbean islands, issuing a plethora of stamps and souvenir sheets often having not much things to do with the country itself...
I'm happy because Vishal has used a stamp on his letter having a link with his country. This stamp ($ 160 or € 0.60 approx) is part of a definitive series issued in 2003 (exact date ?) devoted to different species of butterflies living in Guyana, a White Peacock (Anartia jatrophae) here.
This butterfly is found mainly in the Caribbean, Central and South America (Suriname, Guyana, Brazil, Argentina and Paraguay).

Montbéliard - A special 01.01.2013 postmark !
At the initiative of the "Georges Cuvier Philatelic Association" of the city of Montbéliard (Department of Doubs), a temporary post office offered the public and stamp collectors a special postmark on January 1, 2013.
This post office was thus the only one in France (except the Paris-Louvre post office open 7 out of 7) that was opened that day !
I was very lucky (thank you very much Joël !) to receive the special cover below on which this postmark was applied.
This cancellation includes the words "Bonne Année" ("Happy New Year") as well as a young girl with a bouquet of flowers seeming to be extracted from an illustration of an old greeting card...
Joël has used one of the 12 self-adhesive stamps of the booklet "Best Wishes" (print run : 4,000,000) issued on November 12, 2012. The 12 stamps (Permanent "Green Letter" rate, i.e. € 0.58 from January 1, 2013) have been designed by eight different artists to illustrate several ways used to present wishes (picture, calligramme, rebus, emoticons, pictograms...).
The stamp above, created by Guillaume J. Plisson & Brusk, contains the mention "Bonne Année" on a starry sky.

Joyeux Noël et Bonne Année d'Ukraine !
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year from Ukraine !
Happy New Year ("З Новим роком") and Merry Christmas ("З Різдвом Христовим") are indeed the words included in Ukrainian on the two special stamps issued on December 23, 2011 by the Ukrainian Post (Ukrposhta).
These two stamps (print run : 190,000), designed by Natalia Kokhal, have been issued se-tenant in a single sheet composed of 6 pairs.
Two pairs appear on the official FDC below (print run : 4,100) designed by the same artist, with a FDC cancellation from Kiev (designed by Olha Kozharinova).
Thank you very much Volodymyr for this interesting cover sent on December 6, 2012 from the city of Dnipropetrovsk :-)
These two stamps (UAH 1.80 each) evoke the arrival of Ded Moroz, the equivalent of Santa Claus in some countries of Eastern Europe, with his gifts, as well as a small Orthodox church in a snowy landscape and a group of young singers and musicians (koliadky) who traditionally visit villages houses during the Christmas period.
Volodymyr has also used on his letter above two identical stamps being part of the Ukrainian eighth definitive series issued on January 14, 2012, devoted to tree's leaves and fruits, to an Acacia (20 k) here.

Institut Confucius - Série spéciale chinoise
Implanted worldwide since 2004 by the People's Republic of China, Confucius Institutes are non-profit public cultural institutions providing Chinese language courses, languages degrees, encouraging and contributing to the spread of Chinese culture.
Sometimes accused of propaganda for the Chinese Communist regime, some new Institutes, however, continue to be implanted in the major cities of the world (currently about 400, including 15 in France).
On December 1, 2012, China Post has issued an interesting pair of stamps (1.20 and 3.00 Yuan), designed by Chen Nan, devoted to these Confucius Institutes.
It is that series (issued in sheet of 6 pairs) that appears in the upper right on the cover above with a FDC postmark from Shanghai. Thank you very much Jia Yi :-)
This cancellation features the emblem of these Institutes, showing a dove in front of a globe, which also appears on the left's stamp symbolizing the exchange.
A rainbow connects this first stamp with the other one to the right, symbolizing teaching, on which is depicted a panda (China's symbol by excellence) holding a placard with the words "Confucius Institute" in English and Chinese.
I've already mentioned on this blog the third stamp (Yellow-bellied tragopan) above, issued on February 1, 2002, as part of a nice multi-year definitive series devoted to endemic bird species of China.

Joyeux Noël de Christmas Island !
A Merry Christmas from Christmas Island !
A very original cover below devoted to Christmas, that is however not my favorite topic...
This letter was indeed mailed on December 10, 2012 from Christmas Island, a small town located on the Cape Breton Island on the eastern coast of Canada (Province of Nova Scotia). Thank you very much Maryam :-)
Every year during the Christmas period, this small aptly named post office indeed receive many letters from Canada but also from abroad on which a special cancellation is then applied in two versions (red and green) as it is the case on the cover below.
I don't know exactly how long this postmark (depicting a Christmas wreath) is available during the Christmas period ?
Maryam has of course used on this envelope in the upper right two self-adhesive stamps being part of the new Canadian series (3 stamps in total) devoted to Christmas, issued on October 15th 2012.
This stamp set, designed by Hélène L'Heureux (Interaction Design), is this year featuring different Christmas cookies, the iconic people (Permanent domestic rate) or stars (postal rate for the United States, currently $ 1.05). These cookies are traditionally made from gingerbread, ginger and nutmeg.
To note that this series of three stamps were also issued in an attractive souvenir sheet (gummed version).
A fourth stamp was also issued evoking a more religious theme with a stained glass (Madonna and Child) of the Cathedral of Kingston, Ontario.

Shrine and Arab Postal Day - First cover from Iraq !
Thank you very much Mohanad for this very nice letter mailed on December 5, 2012 from the Iraqi city of Karbala :-)
Mohanad has used three stamps (250 Dinars each) of the series, issued on June 16th 2012, devoted to the Al-Khadimiya mosque and shrine located in the northern neighbourhood of Baghdad.
To note that a souvenir sheet (500 Dinars) was also issued in this set that was printed with golden parts (domes and minarets).
Al-Khadimiya is a holy place of Shi'a Islam and contains the tombs of the 7th and 9th Twelver Shī‘ah Imāms, Mūsá al-Kādhim and Muhammad al-Taqī (8th and 9th century AD).
Since 2004, this shrine has unfortunately been the target of many terrorist attacks.
Mohanad has also used above a fourth stamp (250 Dinars), issued on November 26th 2012, devoted to the Arab Postal Day.
As a reminder, this stamp is a joint issue by the member countries of the Arab League. To date, only half of these 22 countries have actually issued this stamp...

Emission commune TAAF-Monaco, suite...
TAAF-Monaco joint stamp issue, new part...
In a message posted on this blog on July 22, 2012, I shared with you the FDC of June 9th 2012 (with FDC postmark from Paris) about the souvenir sheet of two stamps issued by the Principality of Monaco, a joint issue with the TAAF (French Southern and Antarctic Lands).
As a reminder, this joint sheet (a first for the TAAF with a foreign country) was devoted to some sites of the Kerguelen islands evoking the Prince Albert I of Monaco (1848-1922), nicknamed the "Navigator's Prince" and founder of the Oceanographic Museum of Monaco.
In my post of July 22, I wrote about the approximations regarding this souvenir sheet, in particular the illustration of the ship "Princesse Alice II" in the lower margin...
I've also recently received the FDC above with the version of that same souvenir sheet issued by the TAAF. To note the FDC cancellation from the Kerguelen islands including the design of one of the two stamps of this sheet featuring a Southern Giant Petrel (Macronectes giganteus).
To note above the rectangular inkmark, including the name of the station of Port-aux-Français and its geographic coordinates.

Year of the Snake in Taiwan - FDC
Merci beaucoup George :-)
After 2010 and 2011, the Chunghwa Post of Taiwan has issued, on December 3, 2012, a new series devoted to the Chinese Lunar New Year, using the same modern Pop Art style.
After the Dragon, so we enter, from February 10, 2013, in the Year of the water Snake.
Two stamps (NT$ 3.50 and 13.00) were issued as well as a souvenir sheet (NT$ 12). These two stamps appear on the nice First Day Cover below (design : Chen Peiyi). Thank you very much George :-)
According to the Chunghwa Post, the bright palette of colors used on these stamps highlights the joyful atmosphere of this Year of the Snake.
The stamp on the right shows a pair of symmetrical snakes, symbolizing warmth and wishes coming true...
The other stamp depicts a snake looking spirited and ready to spring into action. It is the symbol of courage and marching ahead bravely.
To note also above the purple postmark in the upper left put into circulation between December 3, 2012 (the year 101 in Taiwan) and January 29, 2013 (year 102).

Présence spatiale aux TAAF - FDC spécial
Spatial presence in the TAAF - Special FDC
A great pleasure to share with you this beautiful FDC from the scientific station of Port-aux-Français, located on the Kerguelen islands !
This strip of 5 stamps (printed in sheet of 5 strips) was issued on June 9th 2012 at the occasion of the "Salon du Timbre 2012" in Paris where the French Space Agency was guest of honor.
These stamps, designed by Charlotte Poupon (a specialist in industrial design), indeed commemorate the 50th anniversary of the presence of the French Space Agency and CNES (French National Centre of Space Research) in these isolated areas of the TAAF ("French Southern and Antarctic Lands").
To note that these stamps have been issued se-tenant with explanatory coupons, somewhat in the manner of the Israeli tabs...
These stamps are featuring from right to left : a satellite map of Antarctica and the Circumpolar Stream, the deployment of the 30 satellites of the European Galileo system (two ground stations are located in the Kerguelen and Terre Adélie), a satellite Pleiades above the station of Port-aux-Français, a stratospheric balloon (Concordia mission in Antarctica) and a penguin with an Argos beacon on a beach of the Kerguelen islands.
According to the designer of this series : "The combined use of black and white and color on these stamps is a kind of conciliation between the world of TAAF and CNES".
Finally, to note that that same FDC postmark (showing the Galileo system), designed by Claude Perchat, was also available in Paris and Terre Adélie.

Xmas cards from Luxembourg and Liechtenstein
Once again, I was lucky enough to receive several philatelic souvenirs, linked to the Christmas festivities, sent here by the postal administrations of the Principality of Liechtenstein and the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg :-)
Contrary to past years, the Stamp Office of Luxembourg has issued this year two stamps (officially "due to strong demand") devoted to Christmas.
This is one of these stamps, issued with a surcharge of € 0.05 in favor of the "Grand Duchess Charlotte's National Work Relief", that appears on the special card below, with its FDC cancellation of December 4, 2012.
The illustrator Michel Olmic (b. 1952) has designed this nice Christmas stamp series whose theme is Letter with a mailbox, stars and a shooting star on the stamp above.
To note that these two stamps (issued each in sheet of 12 stamps) were printed in France by Cartor Security Printing, with silver parts.
Michel Olmic had already designed the Christmas stamp issued in 2002 and the EUROPA series issued in 2004.
He has also designed a series of 4 greeting charity cards "Neijoerschdagspost 2012" edited with postage-paid envelopes with the other Christmas stamp of this series (valid for shipment to Europe).
The Greeting card above, issued by the Post of Liechtenstein, reproduced a watercolor by painter Hermy Geissmann-Mittelberger (born in Eschen in 1955) showing the famous "Red House" built in the Middle Ages on the heights of Vaduz, the capital, with snowy vineyards below.
The stamp above (CHF 1.90) is part of the series of four Christmas stamps, issued on November 12, 2012, dedicated to the archangels Raphael, Michael and Gabriel (celebrated by Christians) as well as Uriel on this stamp, only invoked by the Orthodox Church, often depicted with a sword and a flame.
The designer of Triesen, Stephanie Keiser, has created this stamp series (including golden parts) as well as the FDC postmark above depicting a star.
To note that, as it was the case last year, this Christmas series was printed on self-adhesive paper.
Once again, a poem ("Christmas") is included on the other side of this card above, this time by the German poet and novelist Joseph von Eichendorff (1788-1857).
As a reminder, the previous three similar cards issued in 2009, 2010 and 2011 included respectively some poems by Austrian writer Rainer Maria Rilke and German writers Theodor Storm and Thomas Mann.

TAD spécial de Noël à Åland
A special Christmas postmark in Åland
As it was the case in previous years, the Post of Åland, an autonomous territory being part of Finland, has released (from November 15 and December 31, 2012) a special cancellation to frank the letters sent from Åland during the Christmas period.
It is that postmark that was applied on the beautiful letter below mailed on December 14, 2012 from Mariehamn, the capital and largest city. Thank you very much Liisa :-)
This cancellation is featuring a julbock, this traditional decoration consisting of a small goat made of straw, one of the oldest symbols of Christmas in Scandinavia. The words "God Jul" ("Merry Christmas" in Swedish, the official language of Åland) are also included on this postmark.
Liisa has used in the top right the single Christmas stamp issued this year (on October 9th) by the Post of Åland.
This stamp, without any nominal value, is only including the mention "Julpost" ("Christmas Mail"), i.e. € 0.60 currently (current domestic rate : € 0.75), allowing to send letters to Åland, Sweden and Finland during the Christmas period at a discounted price !
This stamp (print run : 350,000), featuring a young girl in front of a boat shaped gift, is the first one created by the Finnish designer Minna L. Immonen (born in 1964) for Åland Post.
Liisa has completed her postage with two oldest stamps to reach the priority rate for a shipment to Europe (€ 0.95) : an Arctic Tern (€ 0.30, issued on January 3, 2000) and a "Strömma" apple (€ 0.05, issued on June 7, 2011).
Let's stay in Åland with this philatelic souvenir above sent by the postal administration of this archipelago (Posten Åland) !
This card shows an illustration by the same author of the Christmas stamp to the right, Minna L. Immonen. To note also the FDC cancellation (skate) of October 9th 2012 on this card.
The other side of this card above, which is actually a postal stationery with this "Postage Paid" ("Port Payé") stamp, also designed by Minna L. Immonen, depicting a heart-shaped leaf and a bullfinch.
To note the words "Merry Christmas" in Swedish (Åland's official language), Finnish and English, as well as the signature of the Director of Åland Post Stamps, Anita Häggblom.
