On January 2, 2016, the Deutsche Post has released several stamps and in particular the two stamps used to frank these 2 letters (sent on January 7, 2016 from Hamburg), respectively devoted to the 1250th anniversary of the founding of the city of Schwetzingen and to the Löwenburg Castle. Thank you very much Lars !
Schwetzingen (21500 inhabitants, northwest of the Land of Baden-Württemberg), former summer residence of the Elector of the Palatinate, is famous for its castle built in the early 18th century in Baroque style.

It is that Schwetzingen Castle which appears in the middle (top) on the stamp above (€ 1.45, design : Nicole Elsenbach), also including an extract from the Lorsch codex, a view of the splendid gardens of the castle, the Mozart room in the same castle (Mozart stayed here with his father in 1763), the dome of the mosque built in the late 18th century in the castle gardens as well as asparagus, the culinary specialty of this city.
Schwetzingen is considered as the "Capital of asparagus" in Germany, the first cooperative concerning asparagus cultivation in the world having been created there in 1853.

The stamp above (€ 0.90), also designed by Nicole Elsenbach, is part of the series "Castles", a winter view of the Löwenburg Castle (Land of Hesse, town of Kassel) here.
Contrary to its appearance of a medieval fortress, this castle was built in the late 18th century by William IX of Hesse-Kassel (1743-1821).
This castle is part of the "Bergpark Wilhelmshöhe", famous for its monumental water displays, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2013.
