Merci beaucoup Roland pour cette jolie lettre envoyée le 31 mai 2019 depuis la Principauté de Monaco, affranchie avec le timbre EUROPA 2019 (mis en circulation le 6 mai), consacré cette année au thème des oiseaux nationaux.
Ce timbre EUROPA (1,30€, tirage : 45000, imprimé par Phil@poste en feuillet de 10 timbres), conçu par Noëlle Le Guillouzic, représente un faucons pèlerin, avec le Rocher et la mer Méditerranée dans le fond.
Monaco n'a pas officiellement d'oiseau national, le faucon pèlerin (Falco peregrinus) étant une espèce de rapaces robuste (présente sur les 5 continents), de taille moyenne, réputée pour être l'oiseau le plus rapide du monde en piqué (320 km/h).

This EUROPA stamp (€ 1.30, print run: 45,000, printed by Phil@poste in sheetlet of 10 stamps), designed by Noëlle Le Guillouzic, is featuring a peregrine falcon, with the Rock and the Mediterranean Sea in the background.
Monaco does not officially have any national bird, the peregrine falcon (Falco peregrinus) being a robust raptor species (present on the 5 continents), of medium size, known to be the the world's fastest bird in dive (over 320 km/h).
En 2017, la Direction de l'Environnement de la Principauté de Monaco a identifié deux faucons pèlerins, nés dans une excavation des falaises du Rocher de Monaco. La reproduction de cet oiseau en Principauté témoigne de bonnes conditions écologiques nécessaires à cette espèce protégée et emblématique.
Parmi la centaine d'espèces d'oiseaux recensées à Monaco, une 2ème espèce de faucon, le faucon crécerelle a également été observée.
In 2017, the Monaco Department of Environment has identified two young peregrine falcons, which were born in a hollow in the cliffs of the Rock. The reproduction of this bird in the Principality of Monaco is indicative of good ecological conditions, which are necessary for this protected, iconic species.
Among the hundred bird species recorded in Monaco, a second species of falcon, the common kestrel has also been observed.
