On the occasion of the philatelic exhibition PHILA-FRANCE 2019 organized in Montpellier from 7 to 10 June 2019, the French philatelic championship (180 collections) as well as the 92nd Congress of the FFAP (French Federation of Philatelic Associations) were the main events.
As usual for each FFAP Congress, a stamp was put into circulation on June 11, 2019 (general sale) putting this city of Montpellier in the spotlight.
This stamp (€ 1.05, print run: 700,000), created and engraved by Sophie Beaujard, is present on the 3 First Day Covers below. Thank you very much Jean-Claude, André and Joël!

On the two letters above and below, the First Day cancellation from Montpellier (dated June 7, 2019) was applied, with the presence of the signature of the artist, Sophie Beaujard!
This postmark represents the equestrian statue of King Louis XIV erected in 1828 in the center of the promenade Peyrou. This bronze statue replaced a 1st statue of the king, inaugurated in 1718 and destroyed during the French Revolution.
The stamp and its adjoining vignette (with mention of this 92nd Congress of the FFAP) are dedicated to the Place de la Comédie, in particular to the facade of the Comédie opera house (1888) and the fountain of the Three Graces (Aglaé, Euphrosyne and Thalie) installed in the late 1790s. It is actually a replica, the original work (sculptor: Étienne d'Antoine) being exhibited at the Fabre Museum since 1989.

The similar cancellation put into circulation in Paris (Carré d'Encre) was applied on the 3rd letter below.
Montpellier is one of the major cities of southern France, hosting many students (about 70,000) and the seat of the oldest active Faculty of Medicine in the world (founded in 1289).
The historic building of this university was represented on the stamp issued in 1985, dedicated to the 1000th anniversary of the founding of this city of Montpellier.
