La poste française avait initié en 2005 (Année du coq) une série (blocs-feuillets composés de 10 ou 5 timbres) consacrée aux différents signes du zodiaque chinois, clôturée en 2016 (Année du singe) après un cycle de 12 ans et 12 animaux/créatures différents.
La poste française était alors une des premières administrations postales non-asiatiques à émettre des timbres sur ce thème.
En 2017 (Année du coq) et 2018 (Année du chien), des collectors (timbres personnalisés) avaient été émis et, depuis 2019 (Année du cochon), des timbres officiels ont à nouveau été mis en circulation.
Idem en 2020 avec des timbres consacrés à la nouvelle année du rat, qui a débuté le 25 janvier 2020 d'après le calendrier lunaire chinois.

Après des timbres majoritairement conçus par le peintre calligraphe Zhongyao Li, c'est l'artiste chinois Chen Jianghong (né en 1963 à Tianjin), peintre et illustrateur vivant et travaillant à Paris depuis 1987, qui a à nouveau créé les 2 timbres émis cette année pour illustrer cette Année du rat (de métal).
Chen Jianghong a créé 2 blocs-feuillets, "Lotus" et "Mariage" composés respectivement de 5 timbres au tarif "Lettre Verte 20g - 0,97€" (tirage : 400000 blocs) et 5 timbres au tarif "International 20g - 1,40€" (tirage : 325000 blocs).
A noter que chacun de ces 2 blocs-feuillet est composé de timbres de différents formats : 1 timbre au format 33x40mm et 4 timbres au format 28x33mm.
Ces 2 timbres "Lotus" et "Mariage" (format 28x33mm) figurent sur le pli Premier Jour de Paris (17 janvier 2020, vente générale : 20 janvier 2020) ci-dessus. Merci beaucoup Joël !
A noter sur cette enveloppe la signature de l'artiste Chen Jianghong et des caractères chinois ("Meilleurs Vœux" ?).

Le TAD, représentant un rat associé à un nœud chinois rouge, souvent utilisé comme porte-bonheur, a également été conçu par Chen Jianghong.
En Chine, l'année du rat marque le début d'un nouveau cycle puisqu'il est le premier signe du zodiaque, symbole d'ingéniosité et d'intuitivité, ce qui lui permet de faire face et de s'adapter à toutes les situations. Il est également un symbole de prospérité et de chance et les natifs du rat sont intelligents et vifs d'esprit mais aussi peu courageux, matérialistes et souvent préoccupé d'amasser richesses et biens...

The cancellation, representing a rat associated with a red Chinese knot, often used as a lucky charm, was also designed by Chen Jianghong.
