Le 8 août 1967 à Bangkok, 5 pays (Indonésie, Malaisie, Philippines, Singapour, Thaïlande) fondaient l'Association des Nations de l'Asie du Sud-Est (ASEAN), une organisation politique, économique et culturelle ayant pour objectif de faire barrage aux mouvements communistes, de développer la croissance et le développement et d'assurer la stabilité dans la région, dans un contexte de guerre froide.
L'ASEAN est aujourd'hui composée de 10 pays membres, après les adhésions de Brunei Darussalam en 1984, du Vietnam en 1995, du Laos en 1997, du Myanmar en 1997 et du Cambodge en 1999, un ensemble de 625 millions d'habitants (9% de la population mondiale) et la 7ème puissance économique mondiale.
En 2007, une première émission commune (10 timbres différents) consacrée à des édifices emblématiques de chaque pays, avait été mise en circulation pour célébrer le 40ème anniversaire de l'ASEAN.
On August 8, 1967 in Bangkok, five countries (Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand) founded the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), a political, economic and cultural organization whose principal aims include accelerating economic growth, social progress, and sociocultural evolution among its members, alongside the protection of regional stability, in the context of the Cold War.
ASEAN is today composed of 10 member countries, after the accession of Brunei Darussalam in 1984, Vietnam in 1995, Laos in 1997, Myanmar in 1997 and Cambodia in 1999, an entity of 625 million inhabitants (9% of the world's population) and the 7th largest economy in the world. 
In 2007, a first joint issue (10 different stamps) dedicated to emblematic buildings in each country was put into circulation to celebrate the 40th anniversary of ASEAN.

La dernière émission commune impliquant les 10 pays membres de l'ASEAN datait de 2019 et avait pour thème les costumes traditionnels. Depuis 2017, le logo "ASEAN Post" est présent sur ces timbres communs.
Le 8 août 2024, en référence à la date de création de l'ASEAN (57ème anniversaire), une nouvelle émission commune "ASEAN Post" a été mise en circulation, illustrant la thématique des bureaux de poste principaux de chacun des 10 pays.
L'administration postale d'Indonésie a émis ce jour-là un joli timbre consacré au bureau de poste principal de la ville de Medan (Sumatra). 
Ce timbre (3500 IDR), imprimé en feuille de 20 timbres, a été utilisé en 2 exemplaires sur la lettre recommandée ci-dessus avec TAD Premier Jour de Bandung (Java). Merci beaucoup Irene !
Le bureau de poste et de télégraphe de Medan, toujours en activité, est un bâtiment historique de Medan, conçu par Ir. S. Snuyf de Burgelijke Openbare Werken (BOW - Travaux publics civils) à l'époque des Indes orientales néerlandaises et ouvert en 1911. Situé dans le centre-ville de Medan, plusieurs autres bâtiments importants de l'époque coloniale se trouvent à proximité, notamment l'ancien hôtel de ville de Medan, la Grande Mosquée et le palais Maimoon.
Irene a utilisé 2 autres timbres identiques (1500 IDR), faisant partie de cette première émission commune de l'ASEAN, émise le 8 août 2007, représentant le musée d'histoire de Jakarta, aussi appelé musée Fatahillah, retraçant l'histoire de la ville de Jakarta depuis ses origines jusqu'à nos jours. Situé dans la vieille ville de Batavia, il occupe l'ancien hôtel de ville construit entre 1707 et 1710.
The last joint issue involving the 10 ASEAN member countries was in 2019 and had the theme of traditional costumes. Since 2017, the "ASEAN Post" logo has been present on these joint stamps.
On August 8, 2024, in reference to the date of the creation of ASEAN (57th anniversary), a new "ASEAN Post" joint issue was put into circulation, illustrating the theme of the general post offices of each of the 10 countries.
The Indonesian Postal Administration issued a beautiful stamp on this day dedicated to the General post office of the city of Medan (Sumatra).
This stamp (3500 IDR), printed in a sheet of 20 stamps, was used in two copies on the above registered cover with First Day postmark from from Bandung (Java). Many thanks Irene!
The Medan Post and Telegraph Office, still in operation, is a historic building in Medan, designed by Ir. S. Snuyf of Burgelijke Openbare Werken (BOW - Civil Public Works) during the Dutch East Indies era and opened in 1911. Located in the city center of Medan, several other important buildings from the colonial era are nearby, including the old Medan City Hall, the Grand Mosque and the Maimoon Palace.
Irene used two more identical stamps (1500 IDR), part of this first ASEAN joint issue, issued on August 8, 2007, depicting the Jakarta History Museum, also called Fatahillah Museum, tracing the history of the city of Jakarta from its origins to the present day. Located in the old town of Batavia, it occupies the old city hall built between 1707 and 1710.
