FIFA World Cup in Hungary and Brazil

Merci beaucoup Robotka :-)
Hungary was a major nation of football in the first half of the 20th century and was vice-champion at the FIFA World Cups in 1938 and 1954.
This is not really the case today (Hungary is 62nd in FIFA rankings) and its last appearance at a World Cup was in Mexico in 1986...
The Hungarian Post has however commemorated the 19th FIFA World Cup held this year in South Africa by issuing, on May 7, 2010, a special stamp at 325 Forint.
This stamp is included in the bottom right on the beautiful cover below, mailed on July 20, 2010 from the city of Esztergom. Thank you very much Robotka :-)

This stamp is featuring players from different teams participating at this FIFA World Cup (France, Netherlands, Argentina, Portugal and Brazil) around a globe symbolizing a football. Too bad for Spain, missed on this stamp, world champion for the first time...
Earlier in the year (on February 5, 2010), a stamp was issued to announce the Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver. This stamp (260 Forint), depicting a skier and the logo of these games, is also included on this letter.
16 Hungarian athletes participated in these games in five disciplines (alpine skiing, biathlon, cross country skiing, figure skating and short track) but they didn't win any medal...
Hungary has won only 6 medals (2 silver, 4 bronze) at Winter Olympics (from 1932 to 1980), all won in figure skating !
The last stamp above (300 Forint), issued on July 2, 2010, announces the 30th European Swimming Championships to be held in Budapest from August 4 to 15, 2010. The three disciplines of these Championships (swimming, diving and synchronized swimming) are evoked on this stamp. Hungary should be more competitive in the water (9 medals won at the previous championships in 2008) than on snow or on a football field :-)

Who says FIFA World Cup, means Brazil team, the only country to have participated in all World Cups since 1930 and to the only one to have been 5 times world champion !
The Brazilian Post has issued on June 11, 2010, a round stamp (a real one !) to celebrate the participation of the Seleção at this 19th World Cup in South Africa.
This stamp is included on the letter above, mailed on July 5, 2010 from the city of Goiania. Thank you very much Luis :-)
This stamp, designed by Alan Magalhães, suggests two football players from Brazil and South Africa and the African and South American continents (Brazil will host the next World Cup in 2014).
Like on the souvenir sheet issued by France, the 32 flags of the participating teams are featured (with reversed colours for the flag of Germany...). The flags of Brazil and South Africa are also included in the background.
