Guides, sculpture et littérature à Taïwan

Girl scouting, sculpture and literature in Taiwan

The Chunghwa Post had already commemorated in 1985 (two stamps) the 75th anniversary of the founding of the Girl Guides (Scouting for women) and in 2007 the 100th anniversary of the founding of Scouting by Baden-Powell...
Two new stamps have been issued on June 1, 2010 (year 99 in Taiwan) to celebrate this time the Centenary of Girl Scouting.
Thank you very much Cheng for this interesting cover with these two different cancellations :-)

Each stamp includes the Guiding movement's Centennial logo organized by WAGGGS ("World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts") and the emblem of Girl Scouts of Taiwan. The two graphic compositions depict doves, hands and hearts to symbolize peace, sharing, devotion and love...
To note that Canada Post has also issued this year a stamp commemorating the 100th anniversary of Girl Guides of Canada.

If I'm not wrong, this is one of the first times that Chunghwa Post is issuing a stamp with an embossed printing technique...
This is the case about the stamp below, issued in a souvenir sheet on June 22, 2010, reproducing an imposing sculpture by Huang Tu-shui (1895-1930) entitled "Water Buffaloes". Huang Tu-shui was one of the first contemporary sculptors of the island and one of the first to mix traditional and modern elements in his works.
The sculpture below, featuring a rural scene shortly after the founding of the Republic of China (Taiwan), is now exhibited in the Guangfu Auditorium (Zhongshan Hall) located in the capital, Taipei.

After a first set of four stamps issued in 2005, the Chunghwa Post has devoted a new set of four stamps (issued on July 7, 2010) to a 16th century's classical novel of Chinese literature (Ming Dynasty), entitled "Journey to the West" or "The Adventures of Monkey" written by Wu Cheng'en.
This fantasy novel describes the expedition in India in the 7th century of Buddhist monk Xuanzang who will meet several monsters. Xuanzang is then accompanied by the Monkey King, Sun Wukong, the Pig of the Eight Prohibitions, Zhu Bajie, and the Friar Sand, Sha Wujing.
The four beautiful stamps below suggest some episodes of this novel : "Complete Enlightenment", "Sun Wukong Wreaks Havoc in Heaven", "Dreaming of Beheading the Jing River Dragon King" (also featured on the special cancellations) and "Stealing the Ginseng Fruits" from left to right.

This novel is one of the Four Great Classical Novels of Chinese literature, with "Romance of the Three Kingdoms", "Water Margin" and "Dream of the Red Chamber".
