Soyouz en Guyane

In 2005, the Russian Federal Space Agency and the European Space Agency have found a historic agreement to launch Soyuz rockets from a new launch pad located in Sinnamary in French Guiana.
The inaugural launch is expected during the fourth quarter of 2010 from the Guiana Space Center. The French Post has wanted to commemorate this event by issuing, on June 11, 2010, a special € 0.85 stamp.
This very colorful stamp, evoking the fauna and flora of Guiana and the launch of the Russian rocket, is included on the "first day of issue" souvenir below posted during the last "Salon du Timbre" in Paris (that however was opened on June 12...).

To note that the preview sale of this stamp also took place on June 12, 2010 at Sinnamary, French Guiana.
The arrival of the Soyuz rocket in Guiana is an unprecedented event in the strategic and technical cooperation between Russia and Europe concerning space launch. Its launch will take place for the first time outside the former USSR...
Soyuz rocket will complement the range of the Arianespace's space rockets launched from the launch pad of Kourou, 63 km of Sinnamary.
This stamp could have been an interesting joint issue with Russia...
