Le 21 novembre 1344, quelques mois après que la ville de Prague ait été élevée au rang d’archevêché par le pape Clément VI, la 1ère pierre de la cathédrale de la ville était posée.
Cet évènement a lieu en présence d'Ernest de Pardubice (Arnošt z Pardubic), le 1er évêque de Prague, du prince de Moravie Charles IV et de son père Jean de Luxembourg.
Ernest de Pardubice (1297-1364) couronnera Charles IV comme roi de Bohême en 1346 et fondera la célèbre université Charles un an plus tard.
C'est ce même archevêque Ernest de Pardubice qui est représenté en prière à gauche sur le timbre spécial (58 CZK) émis le 15 octobre 2014 à l'occasion du 670ème anniversaire du début de la construction de cette cathédrale Saint-Guy.
On November 21, 1344, a few months after the city of Prague was elevated to an archdiocese by Pope Clement VI, the founding stone of the cathedral of the city was laid.
This event took place in the presence of Ernest of Pardubice (Arnošt z Pardubic), the first bishop of Prague, the Prince of Moravia Charles IV and his father John of Luxembourg.
Ernest of Pardubice (1297-1364) crowned Charles IV as King of Bohemia in 1346 and founded the famous Charles University a year later.
It is the same Archbishop Ernest of Pardubice who is shown in prayer to the left on the special stamp (CZK 58) issued on October 15, 2014 to mark the 670th anniversary of the start of the construction of this St. Vitus Cathedral.
J'ai eu la chance de recevoir le FDC officiel ci-dessus concernant ce timbre (création : Jan Kavan, gravure : Miloš Ondráček), avec TAD de Prague représentant le blason d'Ernest de Pardubice (un cheval blanc sur fond rouge, emblème actuel de la ville tchèque de Pardubice) ainsi qu'un détail architectural sculpté de style Flamboyant, typique du travail de l'allemand Peter Parler, le 2ème architecte de cette cathédrale Saint-Guy à partir de 1352, après le décès du maître-maçon français Mathieu d'Arras.
La construction de cette cathédrale gothique Saint-Guy, Saint Venceslas et Saint-Adalbert se prolongera pendant plusieurs siècles pour se terminer en 1929.
La gravure (par Miloš Ondráček) à gauche sur cette enveloppe représente plusieurs bustes sculptés dans cette cathédrale (les 1ers autoportraits de l'histoire de l'art pour certains) consacrés à Charles IV, Jean de Luxembourg, Ernest de Pardubice, Peter Parler et Mathieu d'Arras.
I was lucky to receive the official FDC above regarding that stamp (design : Jan Kavan, engraving : Miloš Ondráček) with a postmark from Prague depicting the arms of Ernest of Pardubice (a white horse on a red background, the current emblem of the Czech town of Pardubice) as well as an architectural Flamboyant carved detail, typical of the work of German Peter Parler, the second architect of the St. Vitus Cathedral from 1352, after the death of the French master mason Matthias of Arras.
The construction of this gothic St. Vitus, St. Wenceslas and St. Adalbert Cathedral will last several centuries to be complete only in 1929.
The engraving (by Miloš Ondráček) to the left on this envelope is devoted to several sculpted busts in this cathedral (the first self-portraits in the history of art for some) featuring Charles IV, John of Luxembourg, Ernest of Pardubice, Peter Parler and Matthias of Arras.

La partie droite de ce timbre montre la 1ère représentation connue de la cathédrale de Prague, une illustration extraite de la Chronique de Nuremberg ("Die Schedelsche Weltchronik") publiée en 1493.
La cathédrale Saint-Guy est aujourd'hui la plus grande et plus importante église de République Tchèque, un des joyaux du château de Prague.

The right part of the stamp shows the first known representation of the Cathedral of Prague, an illustration taken from the Nuremberg Chronicle ("Die Schedelsche Weltchronik") published in 1493.
St. Vitus Cathedral is today the largest and most important church of Czech Republic, one of the jewels of Prague Castle.
Ce timbre a été émis dans le joli bloc-feuillet ci-dessus dont la marge montre une partie de la cathédrale actuelle (Tour Sud et Porte d'Or).
Les 2 anges sont une référence à l'oeuvre "Madonne de Kłodzko" (millieu du 14ème siècle) offerte par Ernest de Pardubice au monastère augustin qu'il avait fondé à Kłodzko, sa ville natale (située aujourd'hui en Pologne).
This stamp was issued in the beautiful souvenir sheet above with margins showing a part of the current cathedral (South Tower and Golden Gate).
The two angels are a reference to the painting "Kłodzko Madonna" (middle of the 14th century) donated by Ernest of Pardubice to the Augustinian monastery he founded in Kłodzko, his hometown (today located in Poland).
