Nouveaux FDCs et Aérogramme du Brésil

New FDCs and Aerogramme from Brazil

On July 14th 1909 (also an important date for french !), the Brazilian President Nilo Peçanha inaugurated the new Municipal Theater of Rio de Janeiro.
100 years later to the day, the Brazilian Post has commemorated this anniversary by issuing a beautiful stamp with a permanent postal rate "1° Porte - Carta Comercial", or R$ 2.35 at present.
This stamp, depicting the main facade of the building, is included on the nice official FDC below with a FDC cancellation from Rio de Janeiro representing the emblem of this theater.
Thank you very much Marcelo for these new very interesting philatelic pieces from Brazil :-)

The Brazilian Post has also printed by gold hot stamping, the emblem of the theater at the bottom right on the stamp.
It's thanks to the Brazilian theater author Arthur Azevedo that this theater was built in Rio de Janeiro, then capital of the country. Azevedo indeed launched a campaign in 1894 in order that the city hosts a theater company (on the model of the "Comédie Française") in a place worthy of the name.
The architectural projects of the Brazilian Francisco de Oliveira Passos and the French Albert Guilbert finally come together to create this theater, whose facade looks like the Opera Garnier in Paris...
To celebrate its 100 years, the theater will be largely restored.

The Brazilian Post has widely evoked on its stamps issued in 2008 the 200 years of the arrival of the Portuguese royal family in Brazil.
Among the significant actions taken on arrival by the Prince Regent Dom João was the signing of a Royal Charter for the opening of ports. On July 15th 1809, Dom João initiated the establishment of the chamber of commerce in Rio de Janeiro.
In 1867, it will be renamed the Commercial Association of Rio de Janeiro (ACRJ). It is now a major player in the process of modernizing the country : advocate for businesses, defense of democratic principles, economic development in harmony with social and environmental aspects...
200 years to the day after the creation of the ACRJ, the Brazilian Post has issued a stamp showing above on the left the headquarters of the Association in Rio de Janeiro and the important dates in its history since 1809 on the right. The logo of the ACRJ is included on the stamp and also the FDC postmark.

On February 7th 2009, the Brazilian Post has issued a stamp commemorating the 100th anniversary of the birth of Helder Pessoa Câmara (1909-1999), Archbishop of Olinda and Recife (north-eastern Brazil).
This stamp above and the FDC cancellation are refering both to a dove, symbol of peace to honor this "Pastor of Peace" who fight to defend human rights to struggle against poverty all his life. Proponent of nonviolence, he managed to combine theology and social action.
The stamp depicts his portrait in front of the church of Frontiers in Recife where he spent the last years of his life and which has since become a memorial in his honor.

Marcelo also sent me from Sao Paulo on 31 July 2009, the very interesting aerogramme above !
It includes the words "International Aerogramme", "Prepaid" and "Air Mail" (in Portuguese, French, English and German) and is currently proposed by the Brazilian Post at a price of R$ 1.70.
I don't know exactly when it was issued but it seems quite old...
France, like many other countries, doesn't issue new Aerogrammes anymore...It's always impossible to get one at the main post office in Lyon...

I can't help showing you also the other side of this Aerogramme above :-)
It reproduces a nice drawing by Etienne Demonte depicting an animal scene in a swamp of the Amazon state of Mato Grosso.
