Merci beaucoup Garnet pour ce courrier posté le 13 août 2009 du bureau de poste (code postal T5T3T0 sur la vignette d'affranchissement à gauche) du West Edmonton Mall, le plus grand centre commercial d'Amérique du nord :-)
A noter également l'oblitération spéciale faisant référence au West Edmonton Mall Kiosk et montrant la tête de Cosmo, la mascotte du parc d'attraction Galaxyland situé dans le nord de ce centre commercial. Galaxyland est aujourd'hui le plus grand parc d'attraction indoor au monde !

Also note the special cancellation referring to the West Edmonton Mall Kiosk and showing the head of Cosmo, the mascot of Galaxyland Park located in the north of the Mall. Galaxyland is now the largest indoor amusement park in the world !
Garnet a choisi différents timbres ayant pour thème des oiseaux migrateurs et la protection de leur habitat.Le timbre à 45c en bas est vite devenu une curiosité mondiale lors de son émission le 15 août 1995 parmi une série de 4 timbres consacrés à la faune migratrice entre le Mexique et le Canada. Ce timbre, représentant un martin-pêcheur d'Amérique, a en effet été émis avec une coquille dans sa mention en français : la lettre "f" du mot "faune" n'a, suite à une erreur humaine, pas été imprimée !!
La poste canadienne a émis une nouvelle version corrigée de ce timbre le 26 septembre 1995...
Les 2 timbres en haut à droite (34c) font partie d'une série de 4 timbres émis le 22 mai 1986 pour annoncer la tenue du 19ème congrès international d'ornithologie à Ottawa. Ces 2 jolis timbres montrent des oiseaux en vol : un grand héron et des oies des neiges, oiseaux migrateurs qui niche dans l'Arctique.
Les 2 derniers timbres (37c), émis le 1er juin 1988, sont consacrés à la protection de la faune canadienne et de son habitat. Un canard et un orignal sont représentés pour commémorer alors les 100 ans de la naissance de Grey Owl, l'un des premiers défenseurs de la nature au Canada, et les 50 ans de la fondation de l'organisme "Canards Illimités Canada" qui se consacre à la conservation des milieux humides.
Garnet has chosen different stamps on the theme of birds and preservation of their habitat.
The 45c stamp on the bottom, issued on August 15th 1995 in a series of four stamps about migratory wildlife between Mexico and Canada, is now well-known worldwide. This stamp, depicting a Belted Kingfisher, has been indeed issued with a typographical error in its words in french : due to a human error, the letter "f" is missing from the word "faune" !!
Canada Post has issued a new version of this stamp on September 26th 1995...
The two stamps in the upper right (34c) are part of a series of 4 stamps issued on 22 May 1986 to announce the 19th International Ornithological Congress in Ottawa. These two beautiful stamps are depicting birds in flight : a Great Blue Heron and Snow Goose, a migratory bird which breeds in the high Arctic.
The last two stamps (37c), issued on 1 June 1988, are devoted to the conservation of Canada's wildlife and habitat. A duck and a moose are then represented to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the birth of Grey Owl, one of the first nature conservationist in Canada, and the 50th anniversary of the founding of the organization "Ducks Unlimited Canada", which is committed to the conservation of wetlands.
Garnet a eu la gentillesse de joindre à sa lettre 4 FDC concernant des émissions récentes et 2 plus anciens !Après 2007, la poste canadienne a émis le 2 juillet 2009 une nouvelle série de 4 timbres consacrés à des artistes canadiens (vivants !) de la chanson.
Ces 4 artistes ont tous été décorés de l'insigne de l'Ordre du Canada, qui figure discrètement sur chaque timbre. Bryan Adams, une star internationale du rock, Edith Butler, la "mère" de la musique acadienne, le folkloriste Stompin' Tom Connors et Robert Charlebois, l'une des grandes figures de la musique québécoise et francophone, sont à l'honneur cette année.
A noter les 2 cachets "1er jour" ci-dessus émis à Paquetville (Nouveau-Brunswick), village de naissance d'Edith Butler, et à Timmins (Ontario) où Tom Connors à été découvert pour la 1ère fois.

After 2007, Canada Post has issued on 2 July 2009 a new series of stamps devoted to four recording Canadian (living !) artists.
These four artists have all been awarde with the insignia of the Order of Canada, which is discreetly included on each stamp. Bryan Adams, an international rock star, Edith Butler, the "mother" of the Acadian music, folklorist Stompin' Tom Connors and Robert Charlebois, one of the great figures of Quebec and French-speaking music, are honored this year.
Note the two different FDC concalletions above issued at Paquetville (New Brunswick), the village where Edith Butler was born, and at Timmins (Ontario), where Tom Connors played for the first time.
Qui savait que le basket-ball a été inventé par un canadien ? pas moi...C'est sans doute pour réparer cet oubli que la poste canadienne a émis une série intéressante de 4 timbres, le 10 août 2009, consacrée à des épreuves sportives inventées par des canadiens !
Ces 4 timbres autocollants, émis en carnet de 8 timbres (2 de chaque), figurent sur le FDC officiel ci-dessus.
Le canadien James Naismith, alors professeur de sport dans le Massachusetts, inventa donc le basket-ball en 1891 à partir de paniers de pêche semblables à celui représenté sur le timbre...
Les 3 autres sports sont moins connus : le cinq-quilles (inventé en 1909), dérivé du bowling, la ringuette, un sport sur glace féminin qui allie la rapidité du hockey à la stratégie du basket-ball et la crosse, un jeu de balle et de bâton très populaire au Canada.

Maybe in order to rectify that, Canada Post has issued an interesting series of four stamps, on 10 August 2009, devoted to Canadian sport inventions !
These four self-adhesive stamps, issued in booklets of 8 stamps (2 of each), are included on the official FDC above.
The Canadian James Naismith, then a physical education professor in Massachusetts, therefore, invented basketball in 1891 from peach baskets similar to the one shown on the stamp...
The three other sports are less known in France : the Five-Pin Bowling (invented in 1909), derived from Bowling, Ringette, a ice women sport that combines the speed of hockey with the strategy of basketball and Lacrosse, a native ball and stick game, very popular in Canada.
Le 6 juillet 2009, la poste canadienne a émis sa 1ère série de 4 timbres autocollants concernant des curiosités touristiques situées en bordure des routes canadiennes !Deux autres séries doivent être émises en 2010 et 2011. Les postes d'Australie et de Nouvelle-Zélande ont déjà émis des timbres de ce type dans le passé...
Les curiosités illustrées ici sont toutes situées dans l'ouest canadien : Monsieur P.G., un personnage en rondins de bois de 8 mètres de haut qui accueille les touristes depuis 50 ans à Prince George (Colombie-Britanique), la forêt des panneaux indicateurs (plus de 64000 !) à Watson Lake (Yukon), l'inukshuk géant de Hay River (Territoires du Nord-Ouest) érigé en 1978 et Pysanka, le plus gros oeuf de Pâques du monde situé à Vegreville (Alberta).
Ces 4 timbres à la découpe originale (dentelure uniquement sur 3 côtés) ont été émis en carnet de 8 timbres (2 de chaque) mais aussi dans un bloc-feuillet gommé dans un format rectangulaire plus classique...
On July 6th 2009, Canada Post issued its first set of four self-adhesive stamps about roadside attractions in Canada !
Two other series are to be issued in 2010 and 2011. The postal administrations of Australia and New Zealand have already issued such stamps in the past...
The curiosities illustrated here are all located in western Canada : Mr. PG, a 8 metres tall giant "log" man welcoming visitors for 50 years in Prince George (British Columbia), the Signpost forest (more than 64000 !) in Watson Lake (Yukon), the giant Inukshuk in Hay River (Northwest Territories) erected in 1978 and Pysanka, the largest Easter egg in the world, located in Vegreville (Alberta).
These four stamps, with an original shape (perforation only on three sides), were issued in booklets of 8 stamps (2 of each) but also in a gummed souvenir sheet with a more conventional rectangular shape...
Le 10 juillet 2009, un timbre a été émis pour commémorer le 100ème anniversaire de l'expédition légendaire de l'explorateur canadien Robert Abram Bartlett (1875-1946) vers le pôle nord en Arctique.Entre 1898 et 1909, le "capitaine Bob" accompagna le célèbre explorateur américain Robert E. Peary dans trois de ses tentatives pour atteindre le pôle nord.
Le timbre montre un portrait de Bartlett tenant un sextant devant une photographie récente de l'Arctique canadien. A noter que le "Roosevelt", le navire de l'époque dont il était le capitaine, a été surimposé sur ce paysage !
J'aime beaucoup la forme très originale de l'oblitération "1er jour" de Brigus (Terre-Neuve-et-Labrador), lieu de naissance de capitaine Bob.
On 10 July 2009, a stamp was issued to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the legendary expedition of the Canadian explorer Robert Abram Bartlett (1875-1946) to the North Pole in the Arctic region.
Between 1898 and 1909, "Captain Bob" accompanied the famous American explorer Robert E. Peary in three of his attempts to reach the North Pole.
This stamp depicts a portrait of Bartlett holding a sextant in front of a recent photograph of the Canadian Arctic. Note that the "Roosevelt", the ship of that time that he captained, was superimposed onto this landscape !
I really like the original shape of the FDC cancellation issued at Brigus (Newfoundland and Labrador), birthplace of Captain Bob.
Garnet m'a également envoyé les deux FDC plus anciens ci-dessus et ci-dessous !Celui ci-dessus concerne une série très colorée de 5 timbres, émis le 2 octobre 1995, consacrée à des super-héros d'albums de bandes dessinées.
Les 5 personnages à l'honneur, Superman (1938), Nelvana of the Northern Lights (1941), Johnny Canuck (1941), Captain Canuck (1975) et Fleur de Lys (1985) ont tous un point commun : ils sont nés de l'imaginaire créatif d'artistes canadiens.
Northguard, le compagnon anglophone de Fleur de Lys, est représenté sur l'illustration de l'enveloppe à gauche.

The one above is about a set of five very colorful stamps, issued on 2 October 1995, devoted to comic book super heroes.
The five characters in the spotlight, Superman (1938), Nelvana of the Northern Lights (1941), Johnny Canuck (1941), Captain Canuck (1975) and Fleur de Lys (1985) all have one thing in common : they are all born from the creative imagination of Canadian artists.
Northguard, the anglophone companion of Fleur de Lys, is also shown in the illustration of the envelope on the left.
Le dernier FDC ci-dessus est spécial car un timbre canadien et un timbre portugais y figurent !Le timbre canadien à droite, émis le 6 juin 2003, rend hommage au portugais Pedro da Silva (1647-1717), considéré comme le 1er messager officiel du Canada. Venu s'établir en Nouvelle-France, il fut nommé messager en 1705 pour la livraison des dépêches officielles et celles des particuliers dans l'ensemble de la colonie.
Le timbre montre une gravure de Québec datant de 1760 avec à gauche le sceau rouge du Conseil souverain de la Nouvelle-France, sur lequel sont gravées les armoiries du roi de France.
Cette émission coïncidait également avec le 50ème anniversaire de l'arrivée des premiers immigrants portugais au Canada.
La poste portugaise a également honoré Pedro da Silva avec cette oblitération spéciale émise à Toronto le jour d'émission apposée sur un timbre portugais émis en 2003 pour commémorer les 150 ans du 1er timbre émis au Portugal.
The last FDC above is very special because both a Canadian stamp and a Portuguese stamp are included !
The right stamp, issued on June 6th 2003, paid tribute to Portuguese Pedro da Silva (1647-1717), considered as the first officially commissioned letter carrier in Canada. Settled in New France, he was appointed messenger in 1705 for the delivery of official dispatches and private mails throughout the colony.
This stamp depicts an engraving of Quebec dating from 1760 with on the left, the red seal of the Sovereign Council of New France, on which are engraved the arms of the king of France.
This issue also coincided with the 50th anniversary of the arrival of the first Portuguese immigrants to Canada.
The Portuguese Post also honored Pedro da Silva with this special cancellation issued in Toronto the same day of issue, applied on a Portuguese stamp issued in 2003 to commemorate 150 years of the first stamp issued in Portugal.
