100ème timbre gravé par Slania aux îles Féroé

100th stamp engraved by Slania in the Faroe Islands

L'immense graveur Czesław Słania (1921-2005), né en Pologne, a gravé plus de 1000 timbres pour près de 30 administrations postales dont la Suède, la Pologne, la France, Monaco ou d'autres pays nordiques dont le Danemark, et les îles Féroé en particulier.
Słania a d'ailleurs gravé une partie de la 1ère série de timbres émis par les îles Féroé en 1975 après l'autonomie postale de cet archipel dépendant du Danemark.
Le 22 septembre 2003, la poste féroïenne a émis un splendide bloc-feuillet, le 100ème timbre des îles Féroé gravé par Słania !
The great engraver Czesław Słania (1921-2005), born in Poland, has engraved more than 1,000 postage stamps for nearly 30 postal administrations including Sweden, Poland, France, Monaco and other Nordic countries like Denmark and Faroe Islands in particular.
Słania has moreover engraved a part of the first set of stamps issued by the Faroe Islands in 1975 after the postal autonomy of the archipelago, dependent territory of Denmark.
On September 22, 2003, the Faroese Post has issued a beautiful souvenir sheet, the 100th Faroese stamp engraved by Słania !

J'ai eu la grande chance de recevoir récemment cette lettre de la poste féroïenne, suite à une commande de timbres, affranchie avec ce bloc-feuillet à 25 Kr :-)
Ce bloc a été imprimé par la poste suédoise avec une technique mixte offset (marges) et taille-douce (timbre). Słania est arrivé en Suède en 1956 et a travaillé pendant plus de 40 ans pour la poste suédoise qui a d'ailleurs émis en 2000 le 1000ème timbre du graveur !
Le bloc-feuillet ci-dessus reproduit une oeuvre, datant de 1905, du peintre et graveur danois Emil Krause (1871-1945), montrant une scène de danse traditionnelle féroïenne dans la salle commune du village de Viðareiði, sur l'île de Viðoy dans le nord de l'archipel.
Ce tableau se trouve aujourd'hui dans la salle du conseil municipal de Tórshavn, la capitale.
A noter que Krause a peint une 2ème version différente de ce tableau, située dans la salle du conseil municipal de klaksvik !
I was very lucky to recently receive this letter from the Faroese Post, following an order of stamps, franked with this Kr 25.00 souvenir sheet :-)
This sheet was printed by the Sweden Post with a mixed technique offset (margins) and intaglio (stamp). Słania arrived in Sweden in 1956 and has worked for over 40 years for the Swedish Post that has besides issued in 2000 his 1000th stamp !
The souvenir sheet above reproduces of a work, dating from 1905, by the Danish painter and engraver Emil Krause (1871-1945), depicting a scene of a Faroese traditional dance in the common room in the village of Viðareiði, on the island of Viðoy in the northern archipelago.
This painting is today in the town council of Tórshavn, the capital.
It's worth noting that Krause has painted a 2nd and different version of this scene, located in another town council, in Klaksvik !
