Série EUROPA 2011 en Italie

EUROPA 2011 stamps from Italy

A short post to share with you this letter sent from Italy posted on May 16, 2011 in Verona, the city of Romeo and Juliet.
Thank you very much Giovanni :-)
Giovanni has used the set of two EUROPA stamps issued on May 9, 2011 (Europe's Day) by the "Poste Italiane".

As a reminder, the theme of Forests ("Le Foreste" in Italian) was chosen by the European postal organization PostEurop in 2011, declared International Year of Forests by the United Nations General Assembly.
About 31% of Italian territory is covered by forests, mostly in the Alpine region in the north.
Maria Carmela Perrini, the designer of this series, has featured two different types of forests on her two stamps, a temperate mountain forest a priori with a squirrel and mushrooms (€ 0.60 stamp) and a strange rainforest a priori (with a hummingbird) including a fir tree in the background (€ 0.75 stamp)...

Giovanni was kind enough to send me also the two souvenirs above and below concerning this same EUROPA 2011 Italian set. Again, thank you :-)
These two letters are coming from the International Philatelic Exhibition Veronafil, the 116th edition of which took place in Verona from 20 to 22 May 2011. To note that this exhibition has the particularity of being organized twice a year (on May and October).
The special cancellation above is devoted to the 150th anniversary of the unification of Italy, an event already widely discussed on this blog. A map of Italy emerging in 1861 and the four "Fathers of the Nation", King Victor Emmanuel II, Camillo Cavour, Giuseppe Mazzini and Giuseppe Garibaldi (from left to right) are featured on this postmark.

The second stamp part of this EUROPA series appears on the other cover above. This special cancellation pays tribute to the Italian writer Emilio Salgari (1862-1911), a native of Verona, at the occasion of the 100th anniversary of his death.
Salgari is the author of many novels and short stories of adventure often adapted for television or feature films.
To note that the Italian Post had already issued, on April 23, 2011, a stamp (€ 0.60) in his honor.
