"Marc Chagall" m/s on cover from France

Bloc-feuillet "Marc Chagall" sur lettre de France

Un court message pour évoquer cette lettre, envoyée le 15 février 2017 depuis le siège de Phil@poste à Gentilly (Val-de-Marne), affranchie avec la moitié du splendide bloc-feuillet, composé de 2 timbres (1,70€ chacun), consacré au peintre Marc Chagall (1887-1985).
Né en Biélorussie, Marc Chagall, naturalisé français en 1937, est un des grands artistes du 20ème siècle, à travers une œuvre (surréaliste ou néo-primitiviste) souvent inspirée par la tradition juive ou le folklore russe.
Marc Chagall a réalisé de nombreuses œuvres en France, sur différents supports (toiles, vitrail, émail...).
A short post to evoke this letter, sent on February 15, 2017 from the headquarters of Phil@poste in Gentilly (Val-de-Marne), franked with an half of the beautiful souvenir sheet, consisting of two stamps (€ 1.70 each), dedicated to painter Marc Chagall (1887-1985).
Born in Belarus, Marc Chagall, naturalized French in 1937, is one of the great artists of the 20th century, through a work (surrealist or neo-primitivist) often inspired by Jewish tradition or Russian folklore.
Marc Chagall has produced many works in France, on various materials (oils on canvas, stained glass, enamel...).


Ce bloc-feuillet (tirage : 430000), émis le 16 janvier 2017, représente son impressionnant vitrail "La Paix" (couvent des Cordeliers à Sarrebourg, 1976) montrant un arbre de vie sous la forme d'un bouquet, avec Adam et Eve enlacés (timbre manquant + fond du bloc) ainsi qu'un détail de sa peinture "Le Paradis" (1961) évoquant la création d'Eve et la tentation, exposée au musée national Marc Chagall à Nice.
Des œuvres de Marc Chagall ont déjà été reproduites sur des timbres en France dans le passé, en 1963 et 2002.
This souvenir sheet (print run : 430,000), issued on January 16, 2017, is featuring his impressive stained glass window "La Paix" (Convent of the Cordeliers in Sarrebourg, 1976) showing a tree of life in the form of a bouquet with entwining Adam and Eve (the missing stamp above + background of the sheet) as well as a detail of his painting "Le Paradis" (1961) evoking the creation of Eve and the temptation, exhibited at the Marc Chagall National Museum in Nice.
Some other works by Marc Chagall have already been reproduced on stamps in France in the past, in 1963 and 2002.
