"Master Craftsmen" stamps on FDCs from Republic of Korea

Timbres "Maîtres artisans" sur FDCs de Corée du Sud

Le 25 janvier 2017, la poste coréenne a mis en circulation une intéressante série (4 timbres, 300 won chacun, conception : Shin, Jae-yong) consacrée à 4 anciens maîtres artisans reconnus par le gouvernement coréen pour leur contribution à la production et la préservation d'un patrimoine culturel immatériel national.
Ces 4 timbres, incluant des mentions appliquées avec une encre argentée et un vernis spécial, ont été imprimés dans une même feuille composée de 16 timbres (4 de chaque).
Merci beaucoup Ji-Ho pour ces 4 plis spéciaux incluant ces 4 timbres (en 2 exemplaires), avec TAD de Nambusan en date du 31 janvier 2017 !
On January 25, 2017, the Korean Post put into circulation an interesting series (4 stamps, 300 won each, design : Shin, Jae-yong) devoted to four former Master craftsmen recognized by the Korean government for their contribution to production and preservation of national intangible cultural heritage.
These four stamps, including mentions with silver ink and a special varnish, were printed in the same sheet composed of 16 stamps (4 of each).

Chacun de ces timbres montre l'artisan au 1er plan, au travail, avec un aperçu de son œuvre dans le fond.
Le 1er timbre ci-dessus est consacré à Kim Bong-ryong (1902-1994) qui fut un des maîtres coréens du najeonjang (incrustation sur nacre) avec des oeuvres présentant une nacre délicatement ciselée avec des couleurs vives contrastant avec la laque noire appliquée.
Kim Bong-ryong a souvent ajouté des motifs d'arabesques aux dragons ou aux phenix représentés, donnant à la méthode traditionnelle une touche moderne.
Each of these stamps shows the craftsman in the foreground, at work, with a glimpse of his work in the background.
The first stamp above is devoted to Kim Bong-ryong (1902-1994) who was one of the Korean masters of najeonjang (mother-of-pearl inlaying) with works featuring delicately cut mother-of-pearl in bright colors that contrasted with the dark lacquer applied.
Kim Bong-ryong often added arabesque motifs to the dragons or phenix represented, giving the traditional method a modern touch.


Kim Jeom-sun (1918-2008) était un maître artisan de Gokseong dolsillai (tissage de chanvre de Gokseong), Gokseong faisant référence à un district de la province de Jeolla du sud (sud-ouest du pays).
Dolsillai est un procédé de production de tissu à base de chanvre, en fractionnant les tiges en plusieurs brins constituant les fils à tisser.
Kim Jeom-sun (1918-2008) was a master craftsman of Gokseong dolsillai (hemp-weaving of Gokseong), Gokseong referring to a district in South Jeolla province (southwest of the country).
Dolsillai is a process of producing hemp cloth by splitting hemp stalks into strands of thread.


Lee Chi-ho (1910-2006) était un maître artisan de dancheongjang ou peinture ornementale, en particulier avec des motifs de Bouddha ou des peintures multicolores traditionnelles sur des bâtiments en bois.
Ses œuvres sont uniques car elles incorporent une expression moderniste avec des couleurs vives sur des matériaux traditionnels.
Lee Chi-ho (1910-2006) was a master craftsman of dancheongjang or ornamental painting, especially with representations of Buddha or traditional multicolored paintings on wooden buildings.
His works are unique because they incorporate a modernist expression with vivid colors on traditional materials.


Cheon Sang-won (1926-2003) était un maître du somokjang (mobilier en bois ou marqueterie), en faisant en particulier ressortir la beauté naturelle du grain de bois lors de la fabrication de meubles ou de coffres.
Les meubles fabriqués par Cheon Sang-won sont souvent identifiables par la présence du motif 亞 incrusté.
Cheon Sang-won (1926-2003) was a master of somokjang (wood furniture making or marquetry), by particularly highlighting the natural beauty of wood grain when making furniture or chests.
Furniture made by Cheon Sang-won is often identifiable by the presence of an inlaid 亞 pattern.
