La reine Élisabeth II, comme cela est le cas pour tout territoire britannique d'outre-mer, est le chef de l'État de Gibraltar où elle est représentée par un gouverneur.
L'administration postale de ce territoire situé au sud de l'Espagne (revendiqué par ce pays d'ailleurs) appelé "Royal Gibraltar Post Office" (la mention "Royal" a été accordée par la reine en 2005, une première en dehors du Royaume-Uni !) émet régulièrement des timbres consacrés à des membres de la famille royale britannique.
Le jour du 75ème anniversaire de la reine Élisabeth II, le 21 avril 2001, un bloc-feuillet très spécial a été mis en circulation !
HM Queen Elizabeth II, as it is the case with any British overseas territory, is the head of state of Gibraltar where she is represented by a governor.
The postal administration of this territory located in the south of Spain (claimed by that country) called "Royal Gibraltar Post Office" ("Royal" was granted by the Queen in 2005, a first outside the United Kingdom !) regularly issues stamps dedicated to members of the British royal family.
The day of the 75th anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II, on April 21, 2001, a very special souvenir sheet was put into circulation !
C'est ce bloc-feuillet (2 £, conception : Stephen Perera) qui a été utilisé pour affranchir la lettre ci-dessus envoyée le 20 février 2017 depuis le bureau de poste principal ("main office") de Gibraltar.
Comme mentionné dans la marge à gauche, Gibraltar a battu avec cette émission le record du monde Guinness des plus brefs délais d'impression en lithographie après réception d'une photographie officielle approuvée par la Reine !
Ce 21 avril 2001, une photo de la reine Élisabeth II a été prise le matin au Palais de Buckingham avant d'être transmise au bureau postal de Gibraltar qui a conçu ce bloc-feuillet. L'impression de ce bloc-feuillet (par House of Questa au Royaume-Uni) a ensuite débuté à 10h du matin.
A midi, un représentant des "Crown Agents" s'envolait pour Gibraltar avec ces timbres, mis en vente l'après-midi même, 624 minutes après la prise de la photo !
Ce record mondial a ensuite été battu a plusieurs reprises, en particulier par l'Autriche en 2008 (Euro 2008) ou le Liechtenstein en 2012 (exposition philatélique LIBA 2012).
This souvenir sheet (£ 2.00, design : Stephen Perera) was used to frank the cover above sent on February 20, 2017 from the main post office of Gibraltar.
As mentioned in the margin on the left, Gibraltar achieved with this issue the Guinness world record of the fastest stamp printed in history, after receiving an official photograph approved by the Queen !
On April 21, 2001, a picture of Queen Elizabeth II was taken on morning at Buckingham Palace and was emailed immediately to the Bureau's office in Gibraltar where the sheet was designed and then sent to the printers (House of Questa, UK) who commenced printing at 10.00am that same day.
At midday, a representative of the Crown Agents flew to Gibraltar with the printed stamps and the stamps were put on sale that same afternoon, exactly 624 minutes after the photograph was taken!
This world record was then beaten several times, in particular by Austria in 2008 (Euro 2008) or Liechtenstein in 2012 (Philatelic Exhibition LIBA 2012).
