Merci beaucoup Jürgen pour cette jolie lettre, envoyée le 20 mai 2020 depuis Genève, affranchie avec la série EUROPA 2020 (2 timbres) émise le 7 mai 2020, ayant pour thème les anciennes routes postales (thème reformulé en "Itinéraires historiques de la Poste" par la poste suisse...) !
A noter cet intéressant TAD (Genève 1) représentant la façade de l'hôtel des postes, situé rue du Mont-Blanc, construit entre 1889 et 1892 par les architectes genevois John et Marc Camoletti.
Ces 2 timbres EUROPA (1 CHF chacun), conçus par Jürg Glauser, ont été imprimés par Joh. Enschedé (Pays-Bas) dans une même feuille composée de 16 timbres (8 de chaque) avec mention EUROPA et le thème de cette émission (en allemand, français, italien et anglais) dans la marge supérieure (et inférieure ?).
C'est le cas pour les 2 timbres se-tenant utilisés sur cette lettre, avec marge et mention en français.
Le logo EUROPA présent sur ces timbres est à nouveau non conforme (police inadéquate concernant la lettre R) !
Thank you very much Jürgen for this nice letter, sent on May 20, 2020 from Geneva, stamped with the EUROPA 2020 series (2 stamps) issued on May 7, 2020, devoted to the theme of the ancient postal routes (theme rephrased in "Historical Postal Routes by the Swiss Post ...)!
To note this interesting postmark (Geneva 1) depicting the facade of the main post office, located Mont-Blanc street, built between 1889 and 1892 by Geneva architects John and Marc Camoletti.
These two EUROPA stamps (CHF 1.00 each), designed by Jürg Glauser, were printed by Joh. Enschedé (Netherlands) in a unique sheet composed of 16 stamps (8 of each) with mentions EUROPA and the theme of this issue (in German, French, Italian and English) in the upper (and lower?) margin.
This is the case for the two se-tenant stamps used on this letter, with margin and mentions in French.
The EUROPA logo on these stamps is again non-compliant (inadequate font for the letter R)!
Cette série est très bien conçue car elle évoque une ancienne route postale entre Rheinhausen (Allemagne) et Mantoue (Italie), en passant par le territoire suisse (Bâle, Zurich et col du Saint-Gothard), réparti sur les 2 timbres se-tenant.
Ces 2 timbres intitulés respectivement "Suisse-Allemagne" et "Suisse-Italie" ont été conçus en collaboration avec la poste allemande et son bloc-feuillet EUROPA sur le même thème, en particulier les routes postales mises en place à partir de 1627 par le maître de poste de Francfort (et organisateur de la poste impériale) Johann von den Birghden (1582-1645).
On retrouve sur cette série différents messagers postaux de cette époque, voyageant à cheval (et jouant du cor), à pied ou en bateau.
A noter que cette route était gérée auparavant par la célèbre famille Thurn und Taxis qui, au 14ème siècle, avait mis en place un service de courrier pour la République de Venise. En 1490, les frères Janetto et Francesco de Tassis (version germanisée de Taxis) fondèrent le système postal européen sur ordre du futur empereur du Saint-Em-pire romain germanique Maximilien Ier.
This series is very well designed because it evokes an old postal route between Rheinhausen (Germany) and Mantua (Italy), passing through Swiss territory (Basel, Zurich and Gotthard Pass), distributed over the two se-tenant stamps.
These two stamps entitled "Switzerland-Germany" and "Switzerland-Italy" respectively were designed in collaboration with the German Post and its EUROPA souvenir sheet on the same theme, in particular the postal routes set up from 1627 by the Frankfurter postmaster (and organizer of the imperial post) Johann von den Birghden (1582-1645).
We also see on this series different postal messengers of this era, traveling on horseback (and playing the horn), on foot or by boat.
To note that this route was previously managed by the famous Thurn und Taxis family who, in the 14th century, had set up a courier service for the Republic of Venice. In 1490, the brothers Janetto and Francesco de Tassis (Germanized form of Taxis) founded an European postal system on behalf of the later Holy Roman Emperor Maximilian I.
