Après la Grande Muraille de Chine, l'ancienne ville maya de Chichén Itzá au Mexique et la statue du Christ Rédempteur à Rio de Janeiro au Brésil en 2015, le Taj Mahal en Inde en 2016, le Machu Picchu au Pérou en 2017, la poste espagnole a mis en circulation, le 14 janvier 2020, un nouveau timbre dans sa série consacrée aux 7 nouvelles merveilles du monde ("New7Wonders of the World"), avec cette fois Petra en Jordanie.
Pour rappel, ces 7 nouvelles merveilles du monde ont été désignées entre 2000 et 2007 suite à un vote du public organisé par l'homme d'affaires suisse Bernard Weber et la New7Wonders Foundation, basée à Zurich (en référence aux 7 merveilles du monde antique).
A noter que l'UNESCO avait à l'époque tout de suite affirmé qu'il n'y avait aucun lien entre ce projet et la liste du patrimoine mondial...
After the Great Wall of China, the ancient Mayan city of Chichen Itza in Mexico and the Christ the Redeemer statue in Rio de Janeiro in Brazil in 2015, the Taj Mahal in India in 2016, Machu Picchu in Peru in 2017, the Spanish Post has put into circulation on January 14, 2020, a new stamp in its series devoted to the "New7Wonders of the World", this time devoted to Petra, Jordan.
As a reminder, these 7 new wonders of the world were designated between 2000 and 2007 following a public vote organized by Swiss businessman Bernard Weber and the New7Wonders Foundation based in Zurich (in reference to the seven wonders of the ancient world).
To note that UNESCO had at the time immediately said there were no link between this project and the World Heritage List...
Ce nouveau timbre (tarif permanent "C" pour un envoi international hors Europe jusqu'à 20g - 1,55€ actuellement, tirage : 192000) émis en feuillet de 12 timbres, a été utilisé sur la jolie lettre ci-dessus, envoyée de Barcelone le 7 mai 2020. Merci beaucoup Josep !
Comme les 5 timbres précédents, ce timbre est au format panoramique avec le drapeau du pays dans le fond.
D'après l'UNESCO (ce site est inscrit sur la liste du Patrimoine Mondial depuis 1985), ce site de Petra est habité depuis la préhistoire et cette cité caravanière nabatéenne située entre la mer Rouge et la mer Morte fut dans l'Antiquité un carrefour commercial important entre l'Arabie, l'Égypte et la Syrie-Phénicie. Mi-construite et mi-sculptée dans le roc à l'intérieur d'un cirque de montagnes percé de couloirs et de défilés, Petra est un site archéologique des plus célèbres, le principal site touristique de la Jordanie actuelle.
Tombé dans l'oubli à l'époque moderne, le site est redécouvert en 1812 par le monde occidental grâce à l'explorateur suisse Jean Louis Burckhardt.
Ce timbre représente à droite le temple Al Khazneh (le trésor), datant du 1er siècle avant JC, l'un des monuments les plus connus de cette cité antique de Pétra. Ce bâtiment est un tombeau nabatéen dont l'imposante façade est taillée dans le grès.
La 7ème et dernière nouvelle merveille du monde à figurer sur le prochain timbre de cette série : le Colisée de Rome en Italie.

Like the previous five stamps, that stamp has a panoramic shape with the country's flag in the background.
According to UNESCO (this site is inscribed on the World Heritage list since 1985), this site of Petra has been inhabited since prehistoric times and this Nabataean caravan-city, situated between the Red Sea and the Dead Sea, was an important trade crossroads between Arabia, Egypt and Syria-Phoenicia. Petra is half-built, half-carved into the rock, and is surrounded by mountains riddled with passages and gorges. It is one of the world's most famous archaeological sites, the main tourist site of present-day Jordan.
Fallen into oblivion in modern times, the site was rediscovered in 1812 by the Western world thanks to the Swiss explorer Jean Louis Burckhardt.
This stamp features on the right the temple Al Khazneh (the treasure), dating from the 1st century BC, one of the best known monuments of this ancient city of Petra. This building would be a Nabatean tomb whose imposing facade is carved out of sandstone.
The 7th and last new wonder of the world to appear on the next stamp in this series: the Colosseum in Rome, Italy.
