Heureux de partager avec vous ce pli Premier Jour (du 7 mai 2020) concernant le timbre EUROPA émis cette année par la poste française, illustrant le thème des anciennes routes postales.
Ce timbre (1,40€, tirage : 800000), conçu par Stéphane Humbert-Basset et gravé par Line Filhon, représente au premier plan une malle-poste de type Briska (d'après photo du Musée de la Poste) exploitée en France à partir des années 1830-1840 pour le transport du courrier et/ou de passagers.
Une malle réservée au courrier, représentée sur le TAD Premier Jour de Strasbourg appliqué sur cette lettre, était située à l'arrière de ce type de voiture hippomobile d'origine autrichienne.
Afin d'assurer la rapide circulation des dépêches officielles, le pouvoir royal a établit la Poste aux chevaux à partir du milieu du 14ème siècle.
Happy to share with you this First Day cover (May 7, 2020) concerning the EUROPA stamp issued this year by the French Post, illustrating the theme of the ancient postal routes.
This stamp (€ 1.40, print run: 800,000), designed by Stéphane Humbert-Basset and engraved by Line Filhon, depicts in the foreground a Briska-type mail coach (from a photograph of the French Postal Museum) operated in France from 1830-1840 for the transport of mail and / or passengers.
A mail-only trunk, featured on the First Day postmark from Strasbourg applied to this letter, was located at the rear of this type of horse-drawn stagecoach of Austrian origin.
In order to ensure the rapid circulation of official dispatches, the royal power established the horse post ("Poste aux chevaux") from the middle of the 14th century.
Cette organisation reposait sur deux métiers emblématiques : les postillons accompagnant les sacs de dépêches et les courriers et les maîtres de poste, ayant payé cher le privilège de tenir des relais de poste officiels positionnés toutes les sept lieues.
Le fond de ce timbre, le seul timbre EUROPA 2020 gravé (avec également Monaco), permet de visualiser certaines des routes postales mises en place en France au début du 17ème siècle, autour de Paris, Evreux et dans le sud-ouest, avec des routes transitant par Bordeaux et présence de la ville de Périgueux, clin d'œil sans doute à l'imprimerie de Phil@poste.
This organization was based on two emblematic trades: the "postillons" accompanying the bags of dispatches and letters and the postmasters, having paid dearly for the privilege of holding official post relays positioned every seven miles.
The background of this stamp, the only engraved EUROPA 2020 stamp (with also Monaco), makes it possible to view some of the postal routes set up in France at the beginning of the 17th century, around Paris, Evreux and in the south-west, with routes passing through Bordeaux and the presence of the city of Périgueux, no doubt a nod to the Phil@poste printing house.
Ces routes postales sont extraites de cette "carte géographique des postes qui traversent la France" ci-dessus (collection de la Bibliothèque Nationale de France), établie en 1632 par le cartographe Nicolas Sanson (1600-1667).
Une quarantaine d'itinéraires postaux sont présents sur cette carte, la plupart rayonnant en étoile depuis Paris, Lyon, Toulouse ou Bordeaux (27 destinations répertoriées en 1790).
These postal routes are extracted from this "geographical map of the posts crossing France" above (collection of the French National Library), established in 1632 by the cartographer Nicolas Sanson (1600-1667).
About forty postal routes are featured on this map, most of them radiating in star from Paris, Lyon, Toulouse or Bordeaux (27 destinations listed in 1790).
