A EUROPA stamp from Turkey

La poste turque a émis, le 16 juin 2009, sa série de 2 timbres EUROPA ayant pour thème l'astronomie cette année.
Un de ces 2 timbres (1 livre turque) figure sur la jolie lettre fleurie ci-dessous, postée le 9 octobre 2009 de la ville portuaire d'Izmir (Pasaport).

A noter la vignette sans valeur d'affranchissement (Artistamp) reproduisant la même rose que celle illustrant l'enveloppe.
The Turkish Post has issued on June 16, 2009, its set of two EUROPA stamps with Astronomy as topic this year.
One of these two stamps (1 lira) is included on the pretty flowery cover below, posted on October 9, 2009 from the port city of Izmir (Pasaport).

Le timbre EUROPA ci-dessus rend hommage à Ali Qushji (Ali Kuşçu, "le fauconnier" en turc), célèbre astronome, mathématicien et physicien du 15ème siècle, originaire d'Asie centrale.
Il est représenté sur ce timbre en train de réaliser une de ses nombreuses représentations de certaines planètes (on devine une de ces oeuvres en fond), en particulier la Terre (dont il a démontré la rotation), la lune et la planète Saturne figurant également sur le timbre.
Ali Qushji est connu pour sa contribution à l'ouvrage des Tables sultaniennes, des tables astronomiques réalisées à Samarcande par le gouverneur timuride et savant Ulugh Beg. Il participa aussi à la fondation de l'une des premières université du monde ottoman.
The EUROPA stamp above pays tribute to Ali Qushji (Ali Kuşçu, "the falconer" in Turkish), a famous astronomer, mathematician and physicist of 15th century, from Central Asia.
He is featured on this stamp in realizing one of his many representations of planets (you can guess one of these works in the background), in particular the planet Earth (he provided an empirical evidence of its rotation), the moon and the planet Saturn also included on this stamp.
Ali Qushji is known for his contribution to the work "Sultani tables" (or "Zij-i-Sultani"), some astronomical tables published in Samarkand by the Timurid ruler and scientist Ulugh Beg. He also participated in the founding of one of the first Ottoman universities.
