14th anniversary of the 2nd Battle of Yeonpyeong in South Korea

On June 29, 2002, 3 years after a first naval battle in the same region, a 2nd maritime conflict pitted Army vessels from South Korea (Republic of Korea) and North Korea (Democratic People's Republic of Korea), near the South Korean island of Yeonpyeong.
This island (about 1,200 inhabitants) is located near the Northern Limit Line, drawn just after the armistice of the Korean War in 1953 by the United Nations, constituting the de facto western maritime part (Yellow Sea) of the border between the two Koreas.
This area is rich in crustaceans (especially crabs) and is hotly contested between the two countries, often degenerating into numerous armed incidents since 1999...

This 2nd Battle of Yeonpyeong was triggered when a North Korean patrol boat crossed this inter-Korean maritime border, causing a naval conflict between the two armies.
A South Korean patrol boat was sunk and a North Korean patrol vessel heavily damaged, with a balance of 6 dead and 18 wounded (South Korea) and about 13 dead and 25 wounded (North Korea).
On May 2, 2016, the South Korean Post has released a postal stationary (270 won) dedicated to the 14th anniversary of this battle.
A big thank you Ji-Ho for having sent me these two postal stationeries on the first day of issue, from the Sasang district of the port city of Busan !
The pre-printed stamp depicts the memorial built after this battle, the postmark featuring an emblem (black bird) present on the ships of the South Korean Navy (examples on the illustration to the left on this postal stationary).

Ji-Ho also sent me the same day this other postal stationery from Busan above (pre-printed stamp featuring an Eurasian Bullfinch) issued by the Korea Post on November 25, 2014, the first permanent validity card (valid for a domestic shipment up to 5g - 270 won currently) in country's postal history.
The cancellation used here represents a part of the port of Busan as well as the imposing Busan tower (118 meters high) built in 1973.
