"100 years of the Masaryk University" stamp on FDC from Czech Republic

In 1891, Tomáš Garrigue Masaryk (the first president of the Czechoslovak Republic, from the country's independence in 1918 until 1935) presented to the Imperial Council of Vienna a motion calling for the creation of a second Czech university in Moravia.
An act unanimously adopted on January 28, 1919 approved the establishment of the university in Brno along with its four founding faculties: Law, Medicine, Science and Arts (Karel Engliš was the university's first rector).
In 1935, the rector's chain and medal, offered by Masaryk himself and bearing his portrait on the obverse, inaugurated the tradition of the insignia of the university, completed later by the rector's ceremonial mass.

Merci beaucoup Slavek !
The university closed on November 17, 1939 following the Nazi occupation. The damage and losses suffered during six years of war were immense. The number of professors executed and tortured was significant, the faculty of science alone losing a quarter of its academics.
From 1960 (until 1989 and the Velvet Revolution), under the communist regime, the university even lost its original name and was renamed Jan Evangelista Purkyně University, after the name of this Czech anatomist and neurophysiologist.
On January 20, 2019, the Czech Post issued a stamp (domestic tariff "A" - 19 CZK currently), designed by Josef Dudek, dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the establishment of this Masaryk University ("Masarykova univerzita") in Brno.
This stamp was used on the special cover above, with "M" cancellation (design: Tomáš Kudela) of January 25, 2019 from Brno, put into circulation between 21 and 31 January 2019. Thank you very much Slavek!
