Bloc-feuillet "75 ans d'amitié", commun avec l'Inde, sur lettre du Luxembourg
Le Grand-Duché de Luxembourg et la République de l'Inde célèbrent, en 2023, le 75ème anniversaire de l'établissement de leurs relations diplomatiques, en date du 1er juillet 1948.
La coopération dans le secteur sidérurgique a conduit à l'ouverture d'un premier Vice-Consulat luxembourgeois à Bombay dès 1929. Avec l'inauguration de l'Ambassade du Luxembourg à New Delhi en février 2002, des relations amicales se sont développées entre les deux pays.
Les 2 pays sont en particulier de fervents défenseurs du multilatéralisme commercial, financier et culturel. Environ 4000 indiens résident actuellement au Luxembourg et plus de 170 entreprises indiennes sont cotées à la Bourse de Luxembourg.
Le 14 mars 2023, les deux pays ont mis en circulation un bloc-feuillet commun (2 timbres) représentant deux sculptures d'Amar Nath Sehgal (1922-2007), sculpteur, peintre et poète indien et résidant luxembourgeois de longue date, afin de célébrer ces 75 ans d'amitié.
Sehgal a créé son studio au Luxembourg à la fin des années 1970 et a vécu et travaillé entre le Grand-Duché et l'Inde jusqu'au début des années 2000.
The Grand Duchy of Luxembourg and the Republic of India are celebrating, in 2023, the 75th anniversary of the establishment of their diplomatic relations, on July 1, 1948.
Cooperation in the steel sector led to the opening of a first Luxembourg Vice-Consulate in Bombay in 1929. With the inauguration of the Luxembourg Embassy in New Delhi in February 2002, friendly relations developed between the two countries.
The two countries are in particular fervent defenders of commercial, financial and cultural multilateralism. About 4,000 Indians currently reside in Luxembourg and more than 170 Indian companies are listed on the Luxembourg Stock Exchange.
On March 14, 2023, the two countries put into circulation a joint souvenir sheet (2 stamps) representing two sculptures by Amar Nath Sehgal (1922-2007), an Indian sculptor, painter and poet and long-time resident of Luxembourg, in order to celebrate these 75 years of friendship.
Sehgal created his studio in Luxembourg in the late 1970s and lived and worked between the Grand Duchy and India until the early 2000s.
Sa sculpture emblématique, un buste en bronze du Mahatma Gandhi inauguré en 1973 dans le parc municipal de la ville de Luxembourg, célèbre le lien fort qu'il avait avec le Luxembourg.
La version luxembourgeoise de ce bloc-feuillet (2 timbres à 1€), conçu par Anne Mélan et la poste indienne, a été utilisée sur cette lettre envoyée le 20 mars 2023 depuis la ville d'Esch-sur-Alzette. Merci beaucoup Dimitri !
Différents portraits d'Amar Nath Sehgal sont représentés sur les timbres et dans la marge, avec aussi les drapeaux des 2 pays. Les sculptures reproduites sur ces 2 timbres sont intitulées "Amis", une sculpture en bronze représentant deux amis proches en conversation, et "Joueur de flûte", représentant l'esprit de Krishna, le dieu de l'amour et de la joie.
Sur ce bloc-feuillet figure également dans la marge en bas à droite la mention "Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav"
("Elixir de liberté"), le nom de l'évènement national au cours duquel le 75ème anniversaire de l'indépendance a été officiellement célébré
en Inde en 2022.
A noter également cette nouvelle mention "Lëtzebuerg" ("Luxembourg" en luxembourgeois) sur les timbres émis à partir de 2023 dans le Grand-Duché.

The Luxembourg version of this souvenir sheet (two €1.00 stamps), designed by Anne Mélan and the Indian Post, was used on this cover sent on March 20, 2023 from the city of Esch-sur-Alzette. Thank you very much Dimitri!
Different portraits of Amar Nath Sehgal are represented on the stamps and in the margin, with also the flags of the two countries. Sculptures reproduced on these two stamps are entitled "Friends", a bronze sculpture representing two close friends in conversation, and "Flute player", representing the spirit of Krishna, the god of love and joy.
On this souvenir sheet also appears in the lower right margin the mention "Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav" ("Elixir of freedom"), the
name of the national event during which the 75th anniversary of
independence was officially celebrated in India in 2022.
To note also this new mention "Lëtzebuerg" ("Luxembourg" in Luxembourgish) on stamps issued from 2023 in the Grand Duchy.
